UNC extends Mack Brown

Didn't Diaz just win 8 games?
Yes. Not even clueless James would extend Díaz after year 2; however, year 3/5 of contract is a totally different story. 8 wins would justify Blake James extending Diaz’s contract and saving his own job for the time being.

It takes more than just a quarterback. UNC is losing two great running backs, their two best receivers and best linebacker. The only worry for us is that their entire offensive line returns, so we'd better have a plan to deal with them.

Brown won a grand total of one championship at Texas despite having infinite money, resources, and his pick of basically any recruit in the country- and he had to have an all time great QB just to pull that off. I hate to slurp Saban, but if he or Meyer had been the HC there during that timeframe, I expect they would have won a minimum of 6 or 7 national titles in a 15 year span. Brown currently has a QB who might be a top 3 pick and one of the best Os in the country, yet went 8-4. He seems to be very Dan Mullen-ish.

Mack Brown QB recruits after Vince Young/Colt McCoy:

2009: Garrett Gilbert (5 star)
2010: Connor Wood (4 star), Case McCoy (3 star)
2011: David Ash (3 star)
2012: Jalen Overstreet (4 star)
2013: Tyrone Swoops (4 star)

Mack had a 5 star in the fold after McCoy turned pro and was unable to continue the success. He recruited three more 4 star players, but none provided the same level of production as Colt McCoy (himself a 3 star) and Vince Young had given him.
Guy hit on the current qb...jury is still out

The point is there is only one Saban in the league and Meyer is gone...you might include Dabo in there but he could only do it there or Bama...there is no other dominate coach available. Stoop would be a step below.

Mack Brown did a good job getting Bateman (DC) and Longo (OC) there. Those are 2 really strong coordinators and paired with a upper tier QB, UNC should be battling with Clemson. Instead, they are enjoying being in the 2nd tier of the ACC. If they don't make any serious noise this year with a 3rd year Howell, Mack is exactly who we thought he would be.

Good points. But Howell is a likely 1st round pick. 1st round picks at QB are a rarity, even among 4 and 5 star QBs. Unless you get lucky like Oklahoma (Mayfield, Murray), the odds are that none of the QBs on that roster will compete at Howell's level. Plus, Mack is 69. Age isn't in his favor. And you could see coaches on their staff get poached, particularly if they continue some success. I don't know much about Longo, but I have to imagine he will start to get some looks for a HC job based on how well that offense has played under his watch.

Actually, the majority of even the most highly rated HS quarterbacks never actually turn out to be anywhere near a Howell type QB. It’s a huge stretch to think their next quarterback will be anything like this guy

...... Miami will embrace winning 8 games and extend his contract. Our standards isn’t better than UNC and if it is, it isn’t by much. Just look at the process of hiring Díaz. Amateur hour.

You are wrong. No one is going to embrace winning 8 games and then extending his contract.

But you are hoping this happens exactly this way, because you truly enjoy being miserable all the time. That’s the only thing that explains people like you.

Or the guy before him. Since joining the ACC, UNC has always given us a hard time.

Sadly, with that 5-600 rushing yards debacle last year ANY poster on here, except for 1 or 2, could've played QB for UNC that day
MACK could not avoid the beatdown he got from FSU who we destroyed. LOL. Posters on this board are a buch of morons.

Amen. Finally someone throwing out some facts.

Get your head out of your ***. If the university was truly committed to competing for championships then Díaz wouldn’t have been hired. I donate a lot of money towards this program so I hope Díaz is successful this season so an extension is warranted but I know Blake James will fight and spin things to give Díaz more time, even if it’s unjustified. 8 wins is the sweet spot. Time will tell but I expect Díaz here for the foreseeable future.

People act like 8-4 is beneath this program when in reality that’s what a good is season for the past 15 years...
Crazy that some people in here hold Mack Brown at a higher standard than the head coach of their own program.

Point taken but there is too much talent coming back with a weak *** schedule outside of Bama to say 8 wins is a good season. Miami should win 8 games pretty easily.

Even funnier for this board to be saying anything negative about him, after he set up Manny saying he should be considered COY and was worried about our defense. This wasn't UNC giving us just a hard time, it was Brown reminding folks of his past, not the Cane's while conducting a Blitzkrieg on us.

So...I shouldn't talk **** about UNC cuz they beat us? What championship that led to for them? Last I checked, we finished the season with the same record. Fvck UNC and fck Brown. What's his excuse to losing to FSU?
