You might want to stay away from his stint at Texas if you want to stay excited about Diaz.
Ur absolutely right Chise, but let me throw a little something at you...
I wasn't overly impressed by what his defensive stats that's been produced, but then, like I did w D'onofrio, I had to look beyond the #'s. In 2014, when we "boasted" the No. 14 total defense, but it sure didn't feel like we were # 14 in the nation, b/c when u peeled back the layers, it showed we sucked in most def categories...ding, ding 6-7 record end result.
With Diaz, I noticed when UT had their ish together, his defensive scheme flourished....but as soon as the head guy, Mack Brown, started floundering, not just the def side but the off side of the ball really took a hit. Maybe b/c players weren't focused and as u can see, nothing has changed down in TX b/c they have another incompetent coach running the show.
I know Diaz created a really good Def at La Tech and they moved up quite a bit in their rankings. That's a plus. I noticed that MSU, too, moved up in their rankings...which is also a plus. But here's y I'm cautiously excited bout the hire....neither La Tech nor MSU have our resources....****, u can say the same about UT; they may have more $ than us, but our personnel have been kicking their butts for 33 yrs. MSU is excited b/c for the first time in their program's history, they've had back to back (in my Drake's voice) 9 win seasons. Let that settle for a minute.
So I look at having a strong head coach w an elite DL coach w the possibility of hiring another top notch DB coach w that aggressive scheme and So Fla and hand picked national talent and he may have us in the top 10 in most if not all categories. Again, I'm cautiously optimistic based upon history
