...that in 33 years we haven't graduated a single QB who has had an impact in the NFL (except perhaps, Craig Erickson and his two pretty decent years with TB in '93-'94)?

Not that we haven't had excellent college QBs -- Walsh, Torretta, Dorsey -- but we just haven't been able to find super talented guys who can make it in the pros...

It makes it all the more remarkable that the only top NFL QBs in the program's entire history are all bunched up between '79-'86...Those coaches --Lou Saban (Kelly), Schnelly (Kosar, Testaverde) -- were very savvy evaluators and recruiters...

Alabama's last significant QBs in the pros were Stabler, Namath, and Bart Star. So they have gone 50+ years.

Notre Dame's last good one was Montana in the pros, so 40+ years. Quinn and Mirer were drafted high but we're terrible NFL qbs and out of league in a few years.

NFL qbs are tough to come by and being a great/good college qb doesn't translate 1 to 1.

I couldn’t agree more, there are countless heisman winning QBs who did little more than hold a roster spot in the NFL and plenty of pro bowl QBs that were just above average college QBs.

There may be an evolution in place. For years I thought that the programs that didn't attract high level talent, ie. mid majors and groups of five, were more committed too developing players within what was then pro style offenses. Their players, at most positions, stayed longer and developed a cohesive unit. The big boys QBs were surrounded by depth of skill players which may have in fact stunted their growth and reputation, Withess the people who say any one could have won the NC in 2001 with that team. Also, with so much speed and skill, the coaches were able to develop weird modern offenses. As the NFL now embraces many aspects of these new offenses, major QBs are flourishing, see the Oklahoma QBs, Watson, Mahomes, etc.

Good points but...Tua will almost certainly end the Bama drought and so will Jalen, though now at Okla...

We haven't had a QB drafted higher than the 6th round since 1992. There's probably 100+ schools that have had a QB taken in the first 5 rounds during that time.

And it's not just the NFL - we can barely get a QB on the All-ACC team, which is even more disappointing. I think Brock Berlin (2nd Team in 2004) and Brad Kaaya (3rd Team in 2015) are our only All-ACC QB's since Dorsey left.

Excellent QB recruiting is how Dabo has been do successful at Clemson IMO.

Evaluating & signing a good QB is really hard, but our success rate is embarrassingly lower than what it should be.
