UM President Tad Foote has passed away

He's the REAL reason our school has any academic respectability today. Obviously had a complicated relationship with the football program but it certainly wasn't the cartoonish portrayal a certain diminutive filmmaker brainwashed the intellectually deficient segment of our fanbase with. May our current president make as many advances in academic stature as Foote did while also fully embracing athletics. Foote's accomplishments in the former should finally allow for the later. RIP.

I attended Miami during Foote's tenure. He improved the University by leaps and bounds and was well respected by students, alumni, and professors. Has the pleasure of meeting him during the senior send off at his house. Couldn't have been nicer. He made a positive impact on this world, which is more than I can say for the people negging condolences on this board.

The Foote Fellows was one of the reasons I decided to go to the U, so President Foote is indirectly to thank for me being a Canes fan. RIP.

He was an outstanding President for UM and helped gain national stature for the academic program. Pretty easy guy to talk to and very open minded. RIP

How was that program? You got to construct your own curriculum, yeah?

It meant that I didn't have any of the gen-ed requirements that most majors required. I majored in engineering, so it probably would have been more useful with a liberal arts or science major, but it was still a nice perk. I also got to participate in a Foote Fellows-only freshman seminar and took part in the interviews for future Foote Fellows. I ended up meeting a lot of my close friends through the program.
