This story is insane man.
If he hacked into computers because of football related things, Harbaugh is absolutely done.True. No clue where this Weiss stuff is going. Might be totally separate from football
The Connor Stalions stuff. Harbaugh 1000% knew about it
That's what i was thinking. If he hacked into computers because of football related things, Harbaugh is absolutely done.
And it's not just Harbaugh. If Harbaugh knows and instructs it, highly ranked officials know about it. Boosters know. Administration knows. Everyone knows. That's what i was thinking.
All high and mighty Ohio State that never does anything wrong.I am not sure if @JayCane20 knows this, I doubt it, but: Apparently, Ohio States serves were hacked in 2021 leading up to the Michigan game. That was a month prior to Matt Weiss being caught by Michigan police.
Given what has happened and that Weiss apparently has hacked across states into servers of universities (thats speculation but apparently, the FBI has evidence that he did, they are talking about invesigations across multiple states)... Michigan cannot be protected by the NCAA, thats the issue for them. Because there is an entire conference pushing the NCAA to take action. Michigan State went as far as saying "We dont want to play them, its dangerous". If Ohio State was hacked, they will push for Michigan to get absolutely eradicated from the planet. And all of the Big 10 will do the same thing.
All high and mighty Ohio State that never does anything wrong.
They lose 1 time to Michigan and all of a sudden, FBI at the doorstep of Michigan.
**** them both. I hope Michigan burns and Ohio State follows them soon after.
The FBI investigates cyber crimes of higher order, because they are simply more severe. All high and mighty Ohio State that never does anything wrong.

Bama HC has a car dealership for his players and the ncaa doesn’t say a word
Looks like it's heading for possible federal charge(s) under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), or 18 U.S.C § 1030, due to the nature of the criminal cyber activities being reported.True. No clue where this Weiss stuff is going. Might be totally separate from football
The Connor Stalions stuff. Harbaugh 1000% knew about it
As it should. This pales in comparison to boat rides, washing machines, and Benihana.I’m gonna shake my head with contempt when all this blows over, and nothing happens, because “we were unable to really prove anything.”
I haven't been following all the details of this. Was it mentioned anywhere what judicial district the US Attorney's Office is located in that is directing the FBI? I'm sure the USAO located in the Southern District of Ohio (Columbus) would be interested in leading the investigation against Michigan. The FBI investigates cyber crimes of higher order, because they are simply more severe.
The FBI appears to have evidence that Matt Weiss has been in engaged in criminal activity across states. That can only mean to me that he hacked into other universities servers to gain access to data, and since Weiss is simply a football coach and nothing more, I do not see any reason why he would do it for anything other than football.
As much as I dislike Ohio State for obvious reasons, it is a logical consequence, as IT admins are not stupid and Michigan has been absolutely stupid about this:
- Ohio State plays Michigan in November 2021. They find out that their cloud, in which they distribute their practice footage, has been hacked and can trace the IP address back. A year later, Matt Weiss gets caught for computer access crimes and his house and private computers get seized (a seize on the same day he gets caught, btw).
- Months later, the FBI gets involved, because (I assume) Michigan police has found out that Weiss was accessing computers and servers from other states. I dont know how it is in America, but if local law enforcement in Germany finds out about illegal activity that goes beyond their jurisdiction, they are ordered to give that information to the corresponding enforcement. I presume this has happened here.
- It is only normal that Ohio State would push the gas pedal here, because: Why wouldn´t they? We are not talking about football here anymore, this is borderline criminal activity.
The fact is: The worst possible instance has happened for Michigan, because now, its not the incompetent ones at work like their own police and the NCAA. Thats what should be concern, because this is not added to sign-stealing, this is criminal activity possibly aimed at gaining an advantage in College Football. Which means, if the FBI can essentially find the data that Weiss received and it is indeed practice footage, they are history. I get that the NCAA was instructed not to use the death penalty, but there is no alternative here.
That would explain why it took a year for the FBI to be active now. Its that kind of legal work that can take time.I haven't been following all the details of this. The FBI can't investigate anything administratively/on their own, they need to have a USAO onboard so that they can issue grand jury subpoenas. In the US, criminal activity often violates local, state, and federal statutes in multiple jurisdictions at the same time. There is no policy that evidence must be handed over to any other authority, but since most levels of law enforcement work together and communicate, cases are often handed over, particularly if one agency has more resources to conduct an investigation or if a USAO requests it. The other agencies (state and local) typically remain involved in assisting the investigation, it's just that charges are being sought in a higher court with stiffer penalties. In this case, an element of federal statute Title 18-1343 Wire Fraud, is that the wire communication must cross state lines (server to server, device to server, etc). There are several other federal statutes that can be charged as well, if the evidence meets the elements of those statutes. For this reason and since a USAO is onboard with charging a potential violation, is why the FBI is involved.
Yes, I am ex federal law enforcement and looks like local police passed it off to federal (FBI) because of what you say.The FBI investigates cyber crimes of higher order, because they are simply more severe.

I know, don't worry, I got it.Yes, I am ex federal law enforcement and looks like local police passed it off to federal (FBI) because of what you say.
But I was joking about FBI showing up because Ohio State lost.
This being passed off to the FBI is a serious issue.
The NCAA would have to set a precedent. If Houston Astros got punished (lucky to not lose their championship) by having to fire a whole bunch of people, I would expect similar but I’ll believe it when I see it that Harbaugh would get fired and Michigan punished.I know, don't worry, I got it.
This is shaping up for Michigan to get eliminated from everything. It only matters now what Weiss was trying to get. If its football related, its over.
The Big 10 is after them, so...The NCAA would have to set a precedent. If Houston Astros got punished (lucky to not lose their championship) by having to fire a whole bunch of people, I would expect similar but I’ll believe it when I see it that Harbaugh would get fired and Michigan punished.
Imagine if this was Miami? Death Penalty!
This story is insane man.
Lol if it where Miami the death penalty would of already happenedThe only thing that will be insane about this is how little punishment Michigan receives.
IF THIS WERE THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI, THERE'D BE TALKS OF THE DEATH PENALTY.
Since this is fake blue blood Michigan, nobody in the media is saying this ****.
I wish them the worst.
