Uh oh James Franklin

http://articles.philly.com/2014-01-06/sports/45885472_1_al-golden-brett-senior-bill-o-brien

And yet on the 4th Donna said, "We don't know anything yet." So much for constant communication. What's Blake James going to say? "Our head football coach is leaving us at the altar and we look incompetent?"

What was she going to know at that point? Even if she did know something, she wouldn't have texted it out to anyone. The AD said more than once that he was in constant contact with AG. I don't know what more anyone would want.

So James was talking with Golden regularly because he said so but Donna was either completely in the dark or lying because she couldn't divulge any secrets while James was? I doubt it.

And if Donna's word isn't good enough for you, the players and recruits all came out and said that Golden wasn't returning their phone calls. The mods on this site have also echoed the sentiment that Golden was praying for the Penn State job and when he showed up at his end of the year press conference looking and acting depressed it confirmed the point that he had been rejected by his alma mater.

LOL. So, if the mods here say so, it must be true. Now we're interpreting the way AG 'looked' at a presser to figure out what went down? OK. Makes sense. Oh, by the way, we also don't know what question was asked of Donna. Look, the bottom line is that AG could have bailed after the NCAA thing. Ped State has had two chances to hire him and hasn't --- whether he was offered the job either time, rejected by them, or merely spoke to them out of courtesy, we'll likely never know. He's still here. The AD, his boss, certainly seemed to be satisfied with the level of communication he was getting. A lot of this Ped State ***** went down during a dead period for recruiting (12/23-1/3), so there's that, too. You all are just chasing ghosts, which is totally unnecessary. He's not winning enough games, and his defense sucks. You guys should stick to the low hanging fruit.

I guess you'll just stick to reinterpreting history to fit your inaccurate theories. The mods on this website have better insight then we do due to better sources. That's a fact, but that doesn't make them infallible. The players on the team said Golden wasn't communicating with him. That's a fact too. The dead period prohibits coaches from calling recruits, but recruits can call players, which they were doing. Golden wasn't picking up their phone calls. That's also a fact.

Actually, we do know what warranted Donna's response. Shalala's comment was a statement released to the media when they were inquiring where Golden had been for the last few days. So being the powerful women that she is with all the connections that she has, she took the time to gather intel, ask for her employees whereabouts, and came up with a statement where she admitted to not knowing anything, which I'm sure wasn't embarrassing whatsoever for a woman of her prestige. But I guess we could just go with your idea that everything was going swell and this was just blown out of proportion. The mods are good sources of insight, Golden was devoid of his usual, "Golden energy," and we do know what prompted Donna's statement.

Golden could have bailed when he was hit with the NCAA issues and he chose to stay with us back in December 2010/January 2011. Nobody is debating that point and I'm grateful that he did stick with us at the time. You're using the logical fallacy of there's no evidence to directly refute you therefore your point is correct. The fact that Blake James said we're talking all the time doesn't confirm anything. If he wasn't communicating with Golden, he couldn't very well say, "I have no idea where my head football coach is." without first actually talking to Shalala. Shalala's short response was a quick line to get the media off her back where she actually admitted that she, the person that runs the school, had no idea where Golden was. The fact that it was the dead period is irrelevant. Chad Thomas, Demetrius Jackson, and Anthony Moten all tweeted that Golden wasn't picking up their phone calls. But I'm sure that's just an unfortunate coincidence.

This is chasing ghosts since the Penn State vacancy has passed, but it is a legitimate reason to question his loyalty to the school, sincerity, and his belief that he can get the job done here. He came off looking fraudulent to the players and recruits, especially since he was selling the idea of, "we have work to do here and I'll be here to the better end to get the job done."

Penn State has had two chances to hire and hasn't. I agree with you there. That leaves the question as to why? My guess is that they don't want a Paterno disciple. Some would say his not winning enough games or his awful defense, as you so rightly pointed out, was the reason. Maybe having to pay us for buying him out is the reasons. This is where it really is just guesswork.

Believe what and who you want. Makes no difference to me. The mods here don't know. We don't know. AG knows. I'm guessing Blake James knows. Shalala's response was canned, like the politician she is, and means nothing, although I'm sure she knows now what went down. Until one of them starts talking, the rest is just speculation and interpretations based on whatever biases the interpreter holds. Yours are clear.

BigTip, there is literally no way Golden will be fired this year. Will not happen, even if we go 5-7. Coach D? Definitely a possibility, but Golden will be here next year for better or worse

That not I disagree with you, but can you please explain your logic behind this? 5-7 should get anybody fired and you make it seem that even D'Onofrio wont be going anywhere.

The administration, from everything I've heard, are big fans of Golden -- less so of Coach D. They appreciate the fact that he stuck with Miami even after the scandal stuff happened, stuff which should have been disclosed to Golden before he was hired but was not. He has improved the team's record every year (and yes I know there are criticisms to be made of looking at just the raw data like that) and the administration gave him a deal through 2020 only last year -- that's a hefty *** buyout. He also graduates players, keeps UM out of the police beat, and is unquestionably adding talent to the roster. I can see
the the administration, if the wheels fall off this season, forcing Golden's hand and forcing
him to kick out Coach D ... but I can't see any scenario that ends with Golden being fired before the end of the 2015/16 season

Shannon and Golden's tenure have been defined by a completely different set of dynamics

Well reasoned.

I heard that all of the goodwill that Golden had with the administration went out the window with his Penn State flirtations. At the very least he burned up some of the affection he had with the higher ups at the school. I also heard a completely unsubstantiated rumor that his keeping of D'Onofrio this year is what really may have fast forwarded his clock where failure this year gets him the ax. The buyout you mentioned is the only reason I think that they would keep him if the season goes south. Shannon did nearly all the pros you mentioned while pulling in weaker recruits than Golden. Different dynamics aside, it will still look racist.

I don't know how the season will play out. If it's an ugly 7-5 or worse, I don't know how the administration will keep Golden even with all the pros you mentioned. The fans will be calling for blood and D'Onofrio alone wont satisfy them especially with some fans begging for Butch or Chud. Golden's honeymoon with the school ended, but you make a strong case that it will be a 50-50 toss up that he'll get fired if, and only if, this season is a blunder.

Randy recruited the number 1 class in the nation. What are you talking about.

Yes. That one year was ranked high while all his other classes were mediocre. And if you think that his 2008 recruiting class wasn't overhyped, you need to learn how to evaluate film.

Anybody could tell Aldarius Johnson was barely an ACC caliber player. Jacory Harris was Mr. Overrated but benefited from a good defense. Lavonte David never came here. Tommy Streeter was just tall and athletic but a mediocre football player. Laron Byrd was overrated. Ramon Buchanan was hurt. Marcus Fortson was hurt. Davon Johnson was hurt. Jordan Futch was hurt/disappointment. Kendal Thompkins never developed. Since the measuring stick for a recruiting class is how many players are NFL guys, I think we have our answer about how deserving those players were of the #1 ranking. There will probably be just as many Hurricanes drafted this year as the players from the '08 class. We bemoan the talent deficit that Golden took over, which is true, but these players were pretty much just as untalented. The evaluators got these players and this class wrong. Therefore, it can be deduced that Randy Shannon was a poor evaluator of talent, developer of talent, and a poor recruiter in comparison to Al Golden. Thus, Al Golden is a better recruiter and has had better talent to work with now in his later years than Randy Shannon.

We also technically don't know how the Titanic sank and broke apart, but logic can infer an accurate assumption without bias, just like this. Go Canes.

Shannon and Golden's tenure have been defined by a completely different set of dynamics

A poster in the WEZ said that because of Golden's handling of the Penn State situation this isn't necessarily true.

Only the ignorant don't understand what happened during that whole Ped St. debacle.

AG was groveling for the job and got punked.

You can label me whatever you want but it doesn't change the fact that Golden's seat is not even close to warm and waiting for Butch Daivs to walk through the Hecht doors is going to be a long and unsatisfying affair

I remember when people said Randy wouldn't get fired, because of the backlash the school would feel from the black community. We were suppose to be stuck with him for at least another year. Yet that didn't happen.

Golden may get fired, it's highly unlikely, but theres a chance.

But one thing that is absolutely certain is that Butch Davis will never coach another game at this university. Guy is pretty much straight blacklisted from college football, his name is tainted. How many big school jobs have come open in the last 4 years that didn't even take a whiff at Butch? What's changed?

We have a complex history with Butch that the others schools don't.
