We care because he went about it the most unethical, slimy way possible. You want to call Butch two-faced? Golden wasn't picking up phone calls from the school, his players, and recruits. He was beyond confident that he had the job and was shopping for a house in Happy Valley. For all the chants of, "we have a job to do," and, "I'm sticking with the U," he literally turned around and said, "**** that," in an attempt to get out of town as fast as possible.

Everybody on this board would interview for their dream job if it became available. I'm not knocking Golden for that. If I was the coach at Washington and Miami called me I would certainly listen. But I wouldn't ignore my school president, athletic director, players, and recruits in the process of coming off as a massive fraud.

Butch Davis was dishonest with his football players, and yes I know he was getting strung along by the BOT regarding his contract. But you are lying to yourself if you think Butch wasn't a little greasy in the way he handled his exit.

Fair enough. But Butch was a little greasy. Golden was about to jump into a vat of oil and dip out without so much as a backwards glance.

Though I do think that had Golden won 11 games last year, we might view his interview with a different set of eyes. Maybe not though, as I said I don't know enough about it to really comment beyond understanding his desire to interview for his dream job

Well with news like this coming out about PSU, I am thinking UM moves into the drivers seat for Wimbush. Something like this will cause his mom to ask the head coaches at schools in his Top 5 about the arrest records of their players, an when Urban comes out with I had 30 players arrested for felonies while at UF and anothe 5 at OSU in the last 2 years. But seriously with this news breaking I think it benefits UM with Wimbush, if the allegations are proven true about Franklin.

So just to clarify you logic, we haven't hired a high-profile coach in a while so we should just settle for Golden and hope for the best because him leaving would saddle us with some unproven coach and that would set us back 10 years? What total bunk. Golden leaving would bring in somebody just as unproven as he is and could pull off the same average results. And Butch is just as likely as any other candidate you could name at this point.

I cannot stand the posts that paint Golden as some saving grace that has worked miracles here, bash Butch, and then insult the rest of the fan base. At least you and DaU83 create an argument that while I may not agree with is well reasoned and logic based.

I'm on the record multiple times as saying that this is Golden's year to prove himself and that this is a talented and deep team which you've echoed. The difference is you are confident that he'll rise to the occasion and I'm not. My posts about his firing are all strictly hypothetical and say IF he is fired. I actually want him to succeed, I'm just not confident like you are. So my firing posts are all moot points so far and I acknowledge that, but I'm not calling for his head with vigor. I'm just discussing a contingency plan for if, and to some people when, he fails. You on the other hand have no such plan because you don't think he'll fail. So while I may beating a horse that hasn't even been born yet, it doesn't hurt to be prepared for what is a plausible result to the season, which I've done with solid logic.

Also, it's April and there isn't too much else to talk about except way off possibilities. This will only matter come December.

Actually we have never really hired a high profile coach except Howard. JJ was some dude that ALWAYS lost to OU. Dennis had some funky gimmick offense. Butch was an assistant coach as was Larry and Randy. It took JJ four years to win a NC after managing to lose with the greatest team of all time (at that time at least). Dennis won until he ran out of JJ/Butch's recruits. Howard was the been everywhere, done everything bomb with outstanding resume. Golden's qualifications were fine. It is his job results that are not measuring up.

Oh, Butch would take the job in a second. That does not say he would be offered it, or even be any good at it. But him taking it at this point is not really in doubt. Personally, I prefer Chud, with Butch as DC and recruiting co-coordinator(only a moron would not what Butch friggin Davis running the recruiting show).

My only apprehension with Chud is I think he'd jump to the NFL as soon as he got an offer. Butch would jump at the head coaching offer and come for pennies. I also don't think the NFL would come for somebody so old and I don't know if he'd even want to go at this point. But you hit it on the nose with whether the administration would offer him the job. That's the only hurdle. But this all irrelevant if Golden comes through this year.

Well, UL set the table with re-hiring Petrino. When it was believed Golden might by going to PSU, there were a lot of emails pushing for Butch, so it's not like his name isn't front and center.

1. Miami was the one who screwed Butch over on the contract, not the other way around. They ran JJ off as well.
2. Butch has a record as a proven NC team builder.
3. Butch is extremely familiar with Miami football, and the Miami community, and Miami community relations.
4. Butch is the Master at personnel evaluation and recruiting.
5. Butch would dominate recruiting the 305, and about twenty other area codes around the nation.
6. Butch's team put one NC trophy in the case, and Ohio State has the other one that should be in the case.
7. Butch knows defense. Butch knows Miami defense.
8. Butch knows how to get the most out of his players.
9. Butch knows how to have his teams game ready as well as anyone.
10. Money-wise, Butch is a lot of proven coach for the dollar.
