UF’s OL concerns

Nah, it’s not even close to being a discussion. Let’s just say Badger and Brown equal each other out even though Brown was significantly more productive at his old school than Badger was. Then they have Wilson who while talented averaged under 9 yards per reception last year. That’s laughable for any wide receiver. We’ve got X and George who combined for almost 2000 yards last year. All while playing half a season with a broken TVD and/or the combination of Emory Williams and Jacurri Brown. They have some decent potential but we have a ton of proven production.

Yeah that WR talk is crazy. Ours all day on paper. If you want to play the projection game sure, UFs might all turn into Jerry Rice but based on circumstances and production you’d have to be a complete homer to take UFs group over ours.

Good post but remember sacks count as QB rushes.

So in 2022, they were very low in sacks allowed, and Richardson was running the ball.

In 2023, instead of Richardson avoiding sacks and/or running, Mertz is going backwards.

You really need to look at the YPC of the players, not the team:

2022 ETN averaged 6.09 a carry, and Johnson averaged 5.43
2023 ETN averaged 5.75 a carry, and Johnson averaged 5.38

Pretty close, and you can probably say at least some of that is the defense not having to account for the QB as a runner.

I've said it all summer and I will continue to say it, this is one of the ~3 best offenses we'll see all year. And not because they have a Top 20 offense or anything, but this schedule is doo-doo cheeks and the gator offense is not bad. Mertz is a pretty decent college QB. He's not going to go Jeff Driskel in 2016 out there in a couple weeks.

So for the people in this thread and others just thinking our defense is going to completely suffocate them and hold them to 10 points or some ****, while I'd love it, I don't think that's a very likely outcome.

They didn't have a single game last year (besides FSU when Mertz was hurt) where they averaged less than 5.21 yards per play. Miami had 4. (Full disclosure, 3 of them were started by Emory or Jacurri and the other was UVA).

My main focus up there will be:

1) How do they replace Pearsall? He was a Round 1 wide receiver in the NFL draft, and by far their main downfield threat. Do they put Wilson in that role, and give the short **** to someone else? Do they let Wilson continue in that role, and give Pearsall's role to Badger? They have players and options

2) Who fills Johnson's shoes? Over the past 2 seasons, ETN and Johnson have combined for 556 carries. Every other RB on the roster has had 86. ETN is in Athens filming Tokyo Drift: **** Your Cousin Part 6, Johnson is hurt. Do they have another back on the roster that can hurt us by getting more than what's blocked?

3) The pass pro. They ran it well last year, as I mentioned. But they couldn't protect Mertz at all, and they mainly played in a phonebooth as a result, with Pearsall the only guy doing anything down the field. Here comes Bain, Mesidor, Alston, Baron, CMC, and the No ******* Around Crew. When it's 3rd and 8, is their front 5 gonna give Mertz a snowball's chance in **** to convert?
Very good analysis

I am wondering how their guards hold up with the run game. Knijeah was a solid recruit and George was a complete disaster at RT last year so can those two generate the power to open those running lanes? I’m not sure they can.

They won’t hold up and neither will their RT. Which is why I expect Billy to have Mertz try to dink and dunk his way downfield. Our LBs better be ready to move laterally and our CBs to press. At least until we shut that down. JMHO.

On one hand we get them early and lagway won’t be ready to maybe give them a spark. On the other hand maybe it’s worse cause they’ll be relatively healthy. Cause the team that gets them later on with potentially some attrition. Look out

Their 247 site had some injury updates today and apparently Kam Waites still isn’t practicing so they feel that it’s a lock that the RG will be George and the RT will be Crenshaw-****son.

Crenshaw-****son is the San Diego St transfer, he’s been a starter there for 3 years and is a 6th year senior. Apparently both kids have been struggling in camp.

Also they had another back get hurt today. Webb left practice early with a calf strain and didn’t return.

Montrell Johnson is not practicing, but is running on a treadmill. No way he’s 100% in 2 weeks.

So Mertz, a couple WRs. a primarily blocking TE that can catch you sleeping and 2-3 reliable OL. Out of which “maybe” those WRs are on par with our guys. … plus a DL that is known to still be porous.

Yeah, I’m liking our odds here.

**** the koolaid and the PTSD induced anxiety both.

Objectively we must and will dominate. They will hang in for the 1st half somewhat as we still need live game action to gel fully, but they simply do not have the horsepower or cohesion to keep up. We will bully them on both lines. We will eat wherever we want on offense but especially big throws. Perhaps more surprisingly, defense is going to be head hunters out there between the limited time to get the ball out and LBs showing up in a big way.

True freshman LT who was still gaining weight, Penos as the OC, Miami's kicker had the yips, and Miami still almost pulled that game out.
Actually the correct medical term for what affected Miami’s kicker was the “Cucks”

He’s so harmless I can’t even laugh at that.

It's all good. Someone posted some 30 minute podcast he did with some girl named Ali where he was just whining about how the press has built up Miami, and that he thinks our teams are evenly matched.

While admitting, multiple times, that it might be his orange/blue glasses talking.
