U Day

The only thing I don't like about U Day is that we never seem to get big-time recruits out to these events. Its just 80% of our commits, some under the radar kids, and some unknowns. Whenever FSU or UF have their recruiting camps they're able to pull in multiple 4 and 5* for visits, why can't we?

Pineiro would be huge if we could flip him from Bama. Hopefully we can Patrick Bethel to commit.

I don't really see it as a bad thing. If 80% of our commits attend this event, that's great IMO. Do we want uncommitted or priority recruits like the Bethels, the Shavar Manuels, and Craig-Myers of the world to attend so that we can break down those walls of skepticism? Absolutely! We just need to keep what we're doing in terms of U Day, but winning on the the field will secure those visits in the future, making U Day a highly coveted NATIONAL thing for recruits. Getting an invitation would then mean something. Al needs to put the rhetoric to bed, stop the regurgitation of meaningless stats, and put his pride away and WIN by any means. The rest will take care of itself.

UF has a combined 11 wins in the last two years and has pulled in elite recruits to their events still. I wholeheartedly agree with you about Golden. Needs to stop focusing on the past players and get the current players to that level.

IMHO That's fair. UF still does host visits from elite recruits, but their actual signing classes haven't been what they used to be lately either although they still tend to do better with the blue chippers than we do. They also have added advantages: conference recognition, huge publicly funded school where they are treat like gods, and a more recent history of winning. Some folks may say "hey that **** is no excuse", but it's all true. What kept Miami great had nothing to do with any of that stuff but heavily recruiting south FL as a priority thereby bringing the communities on-board because they can relate to the product you put on the field. Most folks in the south FL community have never or would never be able to attend the school for various reasons, and that's part of the reason for the apathy when they don't win. It's not like it's a huge public state university of 30k enrollment like Blacksburg, VA Tuscaloosa, AL or Gainesville, FL where the only thing going on Saturday is that college football game, so EVERYONE goes or tunes in.

Why wasn't Jachai Polite there? I think we need to add him and Bethel to close out this DE class

3 weeks ago he had this to say about Miami and the other schools he had offers from or were recruiting and evaluating him.

Jachai Polite eyes FSU offer; Miami still favorite | ChatCanes.com

He has been down to Miami for a visit, but also you have to remember coming down from Daytona Beach and believe it or not Daytona is not a affluent city so traveling for the kids is not that easy.

Here is link to story about what Polite is saying about the UF offer and how his Teammate Tatum has been in his ear about UF.

Recruiting Trail: Mainland's Jacha'I Polite says Gators near top of his list
By Brian Linder Aug 4,2015

Mainland senior defensive end Jacha’I Polite picked up an offer from Florida last week, and Monday he said the Gators are now one of his favorites.

“I like them a lot,” Polite said. “Their coaches have been keeping it real with me.”

Polite also likes Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4, 230 pounder is a versatile athlete who came to football after spending much of his childhood focusing on basketball. He has, at times, showed off his leaping ability as a tight end for Mainland in Red Zone situations.

He finished last season with 82 tackles — 29 for loss — and 13 sacks, and most schools are looking at him as a defensive end.

There are a few exceptions. South Carolina appears intrigued by Polite's ability as a tight end.

“They like me everywhere,” he said. “They think I can play tight end, but they also compared me to (former Gamecocks standout and current San Diego Chargers pass rusher Melvin) Ingram.”

According to Polite, Florida has also discussed the idea of him playing tight end in the Red Zone........

If it was a transportation issue he could have came with his teammate and friend Marcus Tatum.
