Arrived in Miami around 7pm Saturday:
Took Shaq and Nick to see D.Owens.. He gets a little bit bigger and a little bit leaner every time I see him. If I had to
describe him with one word it would be Adonis
Early Sunday morning:
Took Shaq and Nick to Miami Springs HS to test the new Tracking equipment that the colleges and pros are using. The company is out of Miami ran by UM grads, and now want to take their product/new technology down to the high school level. Shaq and Nick were the first high schools student to ever test.
after the testing they were introduced to Hershel Walker (who looks to be in good enough shape to still play and the professional level)
Arrived at UM about 9 came in the door with Zack Moss and Travis Homer... We did the normal greets... Met with the coaches and some players in panel type atmosphere... the panel entertain any questions that were asked without any of the coaches present...
We were down in the weight room watching the team workout when Zach and his parents came in... immediately expressed our concerns of the rumor and was soon appeased.
Sam Bruce and Dionte Mullins came in together followed behind Jack Allison and Mike Pinkney.
Talked with Joshua Uche... (Uuuuu Che) I know how to pronounce his name now...
Talked with Pat Bethel... suggested that he follow in his dads footsteps. I have a lot better vibe with him this year than last year. Last year I asked if he was committing and he quickly responded No... This year when I told him to follow in his did footstep he laughed and smiled and said he is not sure... This year he was a lot more interactive with the other recruits.
The team ended their work out the recruits and parents went up to meet with Al and the other coaches... then we ate lunch then went out to watch the team practice.
Practice was ran very efficiently... I was asked about who stood out... Gus was impressive... Walton looks like he has been their for a year already... Yearby is bigger then I thought he would be and Trayone Gray is maybe a tad bit smaller than Gus...but impressive looking in his own right. But ... there it is... the practice was at Thud tempo... so the backs finished every run to the end zone... the defense would stop at initial contact... couldn't really get a realistic vibe on what was going on... The front 7 looks impressive / intimidating... wish it was a full contact practice or scrimmage so I could see them in some real action
D. Owens is first team...
OOOOhhh - while practice was going on Allison and Mullins were playing catch... Jack was throwing it on a rope from about 25 yards... while Mullin snatch them out of the air with one hand... not just one... but 10 to 15 reps... The future...
The team seems to be a team now. Last year didn't know any better I thought that the players were grown and all about their business and I'm out... (Locker room after the Duke Game) not to much interaction with one another... This year it was different .. players were a lot more interactive in practice in the weight room and at the Rack... If I heard it once I heard it a thousand times this weekend.." The Team has become a lot closer this year" I heard it from coaches and players alike.
The atmosphere was a lot different this trip... from the recruits... the players and coaches... I hope this is a sign for good things to come
