Tyriq McCord shouldn't see the field anymore

With the way he's been coached and used here, it's difficult to tell.

Give him the right coaching and put him in a spot to succeed and maybe he's dominant. Right now he looks timid and lost half the time.

Kid should be a situational pass rusher only, but **** poor recruiting combined with awful coaching has forced him to play out of position.

McCord is like many of our recent touted defenders. He looks broad shouldered and awesome while signing that letter of intent. Put him on the field and his tackle radius is laughable. Unless the play is smack in front of him and the opponent remains all but stationary, a whiff is a huge favorite.

Deon Bush is the same way, regardless if anyone wants to hear it.

We've had so many of these guys it often looks like 9 defenders out there instead of 11. It's comical to pretend otherwise. I attended two other college games on my recent trip to the Cincinnati game. I watched Louisville in person and Kentucky in person. While attending a game with no rooting interest it's easy to recognize trends and contrast. I was startled when I'd see defenders actually alter course in a short window and make a play that seemed unlikely. We specialize in exactly the opposite, kids who get there and take the wrong angle or flop over the top of the quarterback's shoulders, allowing an unwarranted escape. Maddening, and it has been going on for years.

How can anyone believe that this coaching staff does everything right in terms of identifying talent, and everything wrong in terms of scheme and strategy? That defies probability to such degree it's hysterical. Mediocre minds err all over the board. They pursue the wrong assistant coaches and the wrong players, etc. Lousy instincts and priorities. Essentially they seek their own level. Naturally we have guys here and there who get picked high and succeed in the NFL. That's normal distribution, particularly given our recruiting base. But it's not what it should be. Not remotely close. Once we get an ultra sharp guy on the sideline -- assuming it happens -- the dynamic will naturally reverse, with astute decisions across the board.

They are taught to do their job rather than make a play. All you ever hear is guys were or weren't in position. Nothing ever about just seeing the ball carrier and making the **** play or not making the play. It is as simple as that.

McCord is a 4-3 situational pass-rusher. He's not an OLB IMO, unless we want to use him as a rush-end/LB. Instead we put him in space and act surprised when he struggles.

Im loving all of the posts that read, "McCord is just a pash rusher. Thats it. Not good for anything else."...Ummmm HELLO!!! We could use a freakin' pash rusher right about now dont you think?!?!? But instead we have him covering flats and wasting time in space where he has no business being.

Too bad the prototypical OLB that Golden needs for this system wont be here until next year IF he still comes and IF Golden is even here to coach him. (Zach McCloud)

Watching that last tipped pass makes me hurt so much... Herb was open for 10 yards and more. Kaaya has to find a way to get that thing over the line......... :(

Don'tno has him playing out of position and that's where his problem lies...We've got 9/10 rush ends and our best one is playing linebacker..Idiot coaches who over recruited a position and a guy who will get a chance at the NFL doesn't get to show his real value..

McCord sucks, It ****ed me off alot against Nebraska at the end of the fourth he turned towards the endzone and was screaming and yelling at fans to stfu.

On the other hand, I thought Quan Muhammad played good and Norton showed lots of potential.

Quan played DE .. McCord (due to lack of LB's) was forced to play SAM. Put Quan at SAM similar results.

Is that why we don't have enough LB's or is there another reason ?? Blue , Figs dismissal Owens hurt and Gayot (who was coming around hurt) we are low at LB because of departures for kids doing stupid stuff that were on this team 2-3 were kicked out of school from the same recruiting class.

Since 2012 Figs, Blue , Witt (never played) Bond (never came), Terry (put out), Gayot, Owens (hurt) that's a lot of LB's in which the last two were hurt this year everyone else talented but never panned out in this program.

You can call them misses but they were talented all did stupid stuff (off the field)

Here is what I saw in the film that absolutely killed us.. Examples of players simply not making plays.. Players play this game guys. All of our defensive issues are not players out of position some are in perfect position and not making plays. Coaching? Nah players..

:12 mark 5 man front end doesn't contain (Harris)?? play side LB takes QB (Kirby), safety (Bush runs the alley)
takes the QB??? Bush a Sr.?? this was lead option FB didn't try to make block on Bush he made option to short side of field a long TD by taking QB instead of the best player on the field.

1:10 Kaaya fumbles (we would have had 7 pts) (OFFENSE)

1:13 Rushed 4 Grace looks into back field TE slips away from him
he runs 4.35 40 but cant cover the TE whose running into his zone??? big time gain

1:26

1:28 Backers in zone Cook drags across to short side of field McCord let's him go (there in zone) ball caught in Kirby's zone reacts late DB's in man TD.

2:19 Four man down LB tries to slip inside LB (youngster 51 Young tries to slip the block) leaving a huge hole (is that scheme/coaching poor play HS LB know you cant slip blocks) huge gain on running play

5:07 Burns in man en breaking route to Grace's zone 3rd and 9 Grace recognizes late ball caught chains move on 3rd and long we rushed 4
decent amount of pressure players didn't make a play.

I've seen many players in this system that have digressed as they've received more "experience" in this system. Whoknew?

Right now we have AQM listed as a LB, McCord listed as a LB, Trent Harris rotates as a LB....these are all 4-3 DEs. Golden has constantly played players out of position.

Aqm had bama and notre dame as his other top choices so either way he was going to be a 3-4 olb. Mccord doesn't have a position. He can't handle going up vs o-lineman all game in a 4-3 because he is too small and weak.

Mccord actually said he liked playing wilb because he can just tackle.

If AQM played at Bama....I PROMISE YOU his hands would be on the ground.

There's no reason to believe that McCord couldn't be every bit as good as Marcus Robinson if you used him in the same capacity. (probably better)

That's how I see him, a Marcus Robinson type DE.

Muschamp didn't want mccord for a reason. That guy has been overrated since day 1. He is not out of position he doesn't have one.

He is to weak and bad against the run to be a 4-3 end and is to bad in space to play lb.

Agree with this but even having said that, Tyriq is still a victim of bad coaching. Under a real staff, let's say led by Butch Davis, McCord is put at WDE in a 4-3, redshirts his first year and probably doesn't sniff the field until his 3rd year in the program. A real coach embraces his primary skill and works on enhancing that skill then building on it. A guy like McCord would have an opportunity to start seeing the field as a 3rd down pass rushing specialist. The DL coach would work on his technique and on developing counter moves to his speed rush. Also with a real strength program, he could have slowly developed into a full time weak side 4-3 DE.

That or he gets passed up by better players. What you do not do is try to make a player something he is not. I think it was fairly obvious to most of us since the beginning that Tyriq didn't posses the fluidity or awareness to play in space effectively. I've been screaming about this ever since this goofy staff started making noise about putting him at SAM. Square peg meet round hole. If Al Bortion's personnel decisions weren't so pathetically bad, they would be downright laughable.

It's normal distribution to have 7 drafted players on a 6 win team? Add two other guys (Gunter and Armbrister) who went undrafted, but made 53 man rosters. And, Armbrister made his first start this past weekend.

What else ya selling?
Dooger is actually one of my favorite posters, but I've never seen a bigger Monday morning quarterback

Gary Dooger is a fvucking moran.

You are too if you think his bleating means anything significant.

I could make an argeument that he is actually worse than Dallas Crawford because at least Dallas plays good special teams.

Every time I see Tyriq on the field he is making mistake after mistake. It wasn't just FSU it's been like this his whole career here. He is simply not a good football player and lacks football IQ.

THe one play that he was IN vs FSU was the biggest fck up I've ever seen.

The big run by Dalvin in the 4th.

No one is blocking Mccord. He is in perfect position to make a tackel for zero gain. INstead he runs into the lineman that is blocking NOrton and doesn't even attempt to do anything. He should never see the field after this.

THe next play, they run the same exact play but Grace is in. Grace whiffs on the tackle, then Jenkins is so far out of position Dalvin runs by him.

Curt SHILLing.
