Miami just wrapped up a pivotal weekend on the recruiting trail, marking the third official visit weekend in June for the Hurricanes. Among the visitors was two-sport standout Jasen Lopez, a wide receiver and point guard from Chaminade-Madonna Prep, who spent time with both the football and basketball staffs. He recapped his visit with CanesInSight.

“The visit was good,” Lopez said. “I had a lot of fun spending time with the coaches and getting into the meeting rooms to talk more in-depth about how they can use me.”

Lopez noted that the basketball offer he received from Miami last week played a major role in his interest, particularly cause he said he wants to play both sports at the next level.

“The basketball offer was big — it shows the interest on the basketball side of things as well,” he added.

On the football field, Lopez’s talent speaks for itself. He finished last season with 87 receptions for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is currently rated as a four-star wide receiver, ranked No. 254 overall, No. 43 at his position, and No. 40 in the state of Florida according to the 247Sports 2026 Composite.

Lopez is also a highly regarded basketball prospect, rated a three-star recruit. He checks in at No. 128 nationally, No. 17 among point guards, and No. 19 in Florida for the 2026 cycle.

The 6-foot, 183-pound guard has also been a dominant force for Chaminade-Madonna Prep, averaging 25 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 45% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc.

 

Then why isn't he getting recruited by top level programs that know WRs like OSU, Oregon, LSU etc? Hes committed to FSU for a reason... and miami could have had him months ago if they wanted him. But yea lets stir the natives up on "missing" on a kid cause he can "dunk with 2 hands in the half court". Lol.

I am chill. Just pointing out that this dude was overhyped and cant even get touches on a bad team. People on here were clamoring for us to drop spafford for this kid. Spafford has more catches on a team with wayyy better talent ahead of him. Maybe people should quit hyping kids whos only qualification is they played locally.

The dude leading the country in receiving yards (prior to this week) is a true freshman who was @ a powerhouse HS school yet had no FBS offers lol who gives af who recruited who.

Buddy is 1/15th done with his HS career. U haven’t been proven right about anything.

Everybody knows the kid made a bad decision going to FSU. He was a dawg @ WR in high school but was **** bent on playing basketball in college oh well ...we’re good either way but I believe this kid has the talent to make an impact in college if he commits 100% to football…

Him and spafford isn’t an apples to apples comparison, unlike spafford he’s focused on basketball as well as football which is why he’s at FSU. Calvin Russell is another one who would be here too if it wasn’t for his delusion of being a two sport star in college.
