Two back set (21 Personnel)

Bye week thoughts… I am not an expert like @Lance Roffers or @Stevo365 but my eyes tell me this is our best run package. I also love the oppty to get lofton on a wheel in this package in the pass game. When Lyle is 100% he gives us home-run hitting ability from this set with a lead blocker and pullers in front of him.

Looking forward to thoughts
I love 21 personnel for our offense because it gives us so many different options with the players we currently have. I have been calling for it all offseason.

didnt work great the other night, i like it better with one of the backs being a quick guy like pringle or lyle, also throw to the back on the jet motion to keep them honest, theres no way someone was runnig out with the motion back and we were getting continuously stuffed

I only remember one play it didn’t work and I think we actually had a great learning, think Roman had it in his analysis. Essentially the gates dropped a safety down but Toney was in the slot so he had 1-1 slot so a post could have been a house call with safety dropped down. I think we will see that a lot more

Ya - and that was still a 6 yard gain on the run.

It would be interesting to see Lofton in that formation if he's fully healthy.
Was thinking same
Get him as guy in motion like they did w brown and hit him in the flat
Either way, its a very cool wrinkle

Love the two back set with both our power running backs. They both block like they run making it a great option to run to either side.

Agree with above I'd love to see Pringle/Lyle in this mix bc we're leaving house calls and big runs on the table not taking it to the outside alot. Fletcher did a great job of finding the corner but not everytime. Now when they get north/south they get a sure 6 to 8 but I'd like to see us get explosive in the run game.

A wrinkle I'd like to see is instead of Bauman motioning from the slot to wham block the end and whiff, I'd like to see Fletcher or Brown start from the slot and either make that block or slip out in the flat, wheel it , or texas route it. Our backs are dangerous receivers with the ball and they both catch the ball well. Brown or Fletcher would blow the end up. Their eyes find the defender and they get violent when blocking. I'd love to see this option over/with Bauman/Lofton

Rather be in 21 personnel all day instead of having Bauman (#87) split out in the slot giving us Old Man Cam vibes. Put the max threats on the field.
What I want to see:

- Pistol with Play Action. We went to this a lot toward the end of last year with Martinez and immediately he started running better. This imo is far better for our style of RBs specifically as well. If we are going to just be an out physical you run game with Fletcher and Brown, then get those guys running forward! It also works to make play action more effective imo.
- 21 or 11 for sure imo. But I think we can have Lofton in backfield too and 3 WRs. Spread Defenses out with WRs just adds a multiplier to our main advantage offensively = Our Oline just being better than opponents Dlines. And Experienced QB making good decisions on whne to run or pass

Totally agree. Great points

I love what Heupel does at Tenn, I know we will probably never have splits like that but with our ol I feel that could be deadly

Yeah I wouldn't want to do all that though lol. When I say spread out I just legit mean like dont run quite as much condensed/bunch formations with motions of Wrs into the box. I dont mean WRs spread out to where they can touch the sideline and all that...

Its a good college system for sure and with our OLine and Run game would work. But personally I like being a little more pro style than all that. Think it also attracts better QB/WRs. If I were a top Qb with draft hopes, no ******* chance would I go to UTenn. WR too tbh. I mean if you just want to be a deep threat, they're a good spot. But I don't think you get developed for the NFL there.
