Troubling If True..Thought Al Embraced Our Past?

Seriously though, can anyone tell me why any visiting team is allowed Alums on the field?
It makes absolutely no sense for a home team to allow that. ESPECIALLY when the home team doesn't even allow their own players on the field!
Also, I'll just add that any Cane in the UM HOF should be able to be on the field when they want to. ****, I almost expect Irvin to be there and to give a little speech before the game.
...ahh, if only I was AD...

When Irvin comes to the games, he sits in the suite!

P buch just wants to something to ***** about. He has tickets to the game and any game he wants to go to so the school isn't denying free access to him. He just wants special treatment at a game where the school probably had thousands of requests for sideline access

Pbich now promoting a watch party at club therapy. Ya he ******* about where he's sitting at that game but chooses to promote an event at some random bar instead of being at the game. GTFO

Sorry, but don't buy the lame analogy that Golden would find himself in the unemployment line in the real world, short of his getting caught in the supply room with an office boy. And absent a collapse to close out the season, he's guaranteed to be back next season - unless he were to leave on his. So end of case.

Agreed.

In the real world, CEOs who shepherd their organizations through difficult times are given significant leeway.

Golden Cuts Ties with CB Davis

Jeremy Davis will not be a Miami Hurricane and is now considering UNC, USF and Vandy

January 12, 2011 4:27 pm

Jeremy Davis, the younger brother of former Hurricane All-American Phillip Buchanon, says he will not be at Miami.

And not because he doesn’t want to. But because new head coach Al Golden doesn’t want him.

Golden talked with Davis Tuesday night, which left Davis, who had been firmly committed to the Hurricanes since May 2009, disappointed.

“He lied to me,” Davis said. “I don’t know what’s up with the coach. He was trying to be extra tough on the phone for no reason. He kind of had an attitude with me and my parents. That didn’t go well. My mom is mad, my dad is mad. We have always been all about Miami our whole lives. It seems like he wants nothing to do with Randy Shannon’s players. He wants to bring in who he wants to bring in. He said it’s in my best interest not to go there and basically it wouldn’t matter how good I was that I wouldn’t get to play. That kind of hurts, but you move on with life and you hope the next decision is a good decision.”

Davis, a 6-foot cornerback with blazing speed, starred at Cape Coral his senior year after transferring from Fort Myers. He did not get cleared academically and ended up at Milford (N.Y.) Academy this past season.

He says he’s been cleared academically and will enroll early this semester. He’s currently considering three schools—USF, North Carolina, and Vanderbilt. He has ties to all three with former UM defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff coaching at Vanderbilt; former UM coach Butch Davis, who coached Buchanan, at North Carolina, and a former assistant at USC, who has coached Davis’ cousin at one point.

Florida assistant Aubrey Hill, UM's former recruiting coordinator, has been trying to persuade Davis to Gainesville, but Davis says he's not interested in UF or UM rival Florida State.

“(Golden) said I can’t play at Miami and that I’m not a Miami guy,” Davis said. “I’ve been Miami the whole time. Miami would have been my choice if I wasn’t for the coach. It just didn’t seem right for him that he was giving me attitude for no reason. He lied to me, he lied to my parents.”

Davis said that he’ll go to a school that he feels wanted and somewhere he can play early.

“I’ll still be Miami fan, I still love Miami,” Davis said. “But with the new coach, he and I just aren’t seeing eye-to-eye and if you’re not it’s not going to work out. Period. But there aint no love lost. I wanted to be there. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to get the ‘U’ back to where it was.”

The timing of Golden's call makes it especially difficult for Davis, who was expecting to start classes at Miami in less than a week when Spring Semester classes start in Coral Gables on January 18th, and now must scramble to find an alternative.

Well, you want to know something. He didn't enroll at UCF in 2011. He signed in 2012 and redshirted. He did scout last year and he is not even on the UCF roster. Maybe just maybe he wasn't going to qualify which is exactly what happened. And maybe just maybe the kid isn't a Division 1 player. Of course he's ****ed. He can attack the university and the university can't comment. And this is not to defend Golden. This is to lay out the status of Jeremy Davis.

Hindsight is 20/20, how many players Golden recruited are no longer with the team and some not even playing football.

:neonu:

..and how many of those were last minute grabs or rosters fillers during the NCAA clouded era. It can be argued both ways and both ways could be argued correctly.

**** not the clud excuse again, bottom line you dont turn away a kid that's been committed and is also a legacy. Just like you dont kick off the team the current player on the team once you take over.

:neonu:

No, but you may turn away a kid you know has no chance of qualifying.

He didn't qualify. Once he did, the offer was no longer honored by Golden. And yeah, maybe he's been **** since, but having played competitive ball, motivation and future outlook means a lot. The guy was offered and the offer was rescinded once he qualified.

There have been times where we've offered a player, he commits, doesn't qualify and has to go off to prep, gets out but goes off to another school. And we get upset about it. Our coaches don't like it. This is what happened in reverse. Golden is just as dishonorable as a player who does the same. Difference though is that what Golden did hurts recruiting and allows opposing coaches to point to him taking back that offer and use it to negative recruit.

Davis was supposed to be class of 2010. You realize he didn't qualify to get into UCF as part of the 2011 class? Obviously not. HE DIDN'T QUALIFY IN 2011. He entered UCF 2012.

I don't like Al, and frankly I look for any reason to bash the guy, but we're off base on this one. This is the admin's decision. Once Donna leaves, things, hopefully, will go back to normal. However, the fence around the U family have to be mended. Al has brought this heat upon himself in regards to the ire that's been shown from former players due to the on-field atrocity we've never witnessed before...so yes he needs to be held accountable for that, but this one is not on him and that heat needs to be directed at Donna and Co.

I said the HOF members SHOULD be able to be on field, not are. He can still be on the field and in locker room before the game starts, so he can still give the speech....

Yall some ********.....AG did not make the rule this rule went into effect as part of the NCAA sanctions by the administration. Portis was able to get on the sidelines for UNC game cause he works for the ACC network

Don't know, but I recall seeing FSU and Miami alums on the sidelines at Maryland in the past.

I think the former players should have access to the field. There should be a lottery or something with the HOFs getting better access. Cap it at 15 per game or something. But how you gonna rank guys that should get access vs. guys that shouldn't? Just because you went first round doesn't mean you should get better access than another former player. We have so many good former players, that PB would not make the top 20. ****, top 30?

Exactly!
How quickly people forget, or conveniently forget so they can carry on with their agenda.
Pathetic.

I'm not surprised people are siding with Kim Jong Al's decision to freeze out a championship winning Miami Hurricane player because he publicly called him out for his poor performances.

Ya'll are creepy.

How does the fact he was a great player on a great team have anything to do with the rule most of us live by?
If you disrespect someone as much as Phillip did with Al F Golden how on earth would you expect a free ticket to the game without apology let alone sharing a sideline with him?? How is Golden wrong there?
If he really banned everyone he underestimates the undeniable asset it is to have football legends on the sidelines to help them dig deeper. I hope that's not the case

You do realize former athletes of a school are considered boosters.
You do know this, correct?
Maybe not based on your third-grade response.

Lots of things one can criticize the HC and his assistants over.
Pick your spots and grow up.

NCAA Bylaw 13.02.14 (Representative of Athletics Interests) defines a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests” (“booster”) as “an individual, independent agency, corporate entity (e.g., apparel or equipment manufacturer) or other organization who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution’s executive or athletics administration to:

(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program;

(b) Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution;

(c) Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;

(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or

(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution’s athletics program.”

NCAA Constitution 6.4.1 also has a similar definition for boosters. Under NCAA Bylaw 13.02.14.1 (Duration of Status), “once an individual, independent agency, corporate entity or other organization is identified as such a representative, the person, independent agency, corporate entity or other organization retains that identity indefinitely”.

Who cares anymore. He'd rather go clubbing than watch the game live. He does have tickets provided by the school n he chose to go watch it at some deadbeat club.
