Question.... Can a player choose to not enter the draft and just sign as a UFA? I never liked the Eli/Rivers swap when Eli basically said no way I play with the Chargers, I only want the giants and had to work out a trade. My opinion was if you enter into the draft and want that guaranteed money the CBA offers, then you go to whatever team picks you, none of this pouting ish.

But what is stopping lawerence from not going into the draft, signing as a UFA to whatever team he wants, who will likely open their pocketbooks for him as if he were some dude off the street? I get there is value in being the number 1 overall pick, but cant tell me there wouldnt be a bidding war for the kid if he were to forego the draft.
I believe you can get drafted without entering; so the team Drafting owns your rights for a certain number of years.

Anything could happen but you don’t pass up being the #1 pick. I’d hesitate to be a Jet as well - talk about a dumpster fire - but it might not be the Jets. Remember what happened with Eli

Whoever asked him the question is an idiot. Kid isnt going to announce something like that now. But we all know hes gone. Dabo knows hes gone. Dabo would probably tell him hes an idiot if he tried to stay. Nothing left for him to prove even if they dont win the title.

Hes going to go a bad team regardless of when he comes out of college. If this were the NBA lottery it would be different. He could luck up and a solid team gets the #1 pick and hes lucky ASF. So unless he has a powerful dad that I dont know about (Archie Manning telling the Chargers they better not take Eli) then hes pretty much screwed any way he looks at it.

I think ppl are forgetting that he can stay and then sit out his senior yr. That's just for the ppl who's saying he might get hurt playing..... Now with that being said, AIN'T NO WAY IN **** HE'S STAYING ANOTHER YR.

As a Phins fan, we just got rid of Brady. I'm not sold on Lawrence being the next all-time great, but I'd be fine if he went to the NFC, or at least a different division in the AFC.

You can't skip the draft and sign as a fa. Violation of the collective bargaining agreement between the teams and the players union.
Thanks, Got it. so the players union is a mandatory union? i.e. you want to play the NFL you are required to join? I guess I still have difficulty seeing how the players union, if it were a choice, can control a college kid who is not technically in said union but the NFL is a private entity so they can essentially put in a lot of requirements/rules. Also reminded me of the Malcolm Butler story where I believe he was from west alabama and working at some restaurant when the Pats called him up and invited him to a workout but I guess he could have technically "entered" the draft with little fanfare.

I hate the Jets but their issue is they hired a ******* idiot who thinks he's the smartest man in the room in Gase. With Brady out of New England, the division is prime for the taking with the right coach and QB. Gase will be **** canned at the end of the year if not in the next few weeks. Bills currently have the upper hand but they aren't world beaters. If Mark ******* Sanchez can get the Jets to the playoffs, he can do it lol
