Trent Dilfer blasts portal/NIL abuse

It’s easy to say stuff like this when you’re at UAB because you know none of these elite recruits are coming there anyways. On a side note, has there ever been a worse QB to win a Super Bowl than The Dilf’? I’m trying to think of one but for the life of me I can’t. Thankfully, he had one of the greatest Defense’s ever picking up his slack.

That Trent Dilfer lead Ravens offense was nearly as painful to watch as Gotass's offense last year here at Miami!

We can't say what he'd do wherever.

Trent is what he is and IMO, he's one of the good guys in the sport. There's others out there for sure and he seems to indicate he's got evidence of a P5 admin talking to a kid of his, I don't think he'd allow that himself. Again, just an opinion.

He's right though, where he is, it shouldn't be happening. I'm glad he said it and I wish he'd call them out directly.
Don’t get me wrong, in no way am I saying I like it or condone it, but ask yourself honestly: What can be done about it? All of these HC’s have plausible deniability so there’s no way to trace any of this back to them. You could impose harsher restrictions on transfers but I don’t know many people who want that now. Remember, Mario coached under Saban at Bama so he knows exactly how the SEC gets down. I’m sure he was furious about them tampering with Van Dyke behind closed doors but realizes it’s pointless to complain about it. Bama tried to tamper with Maye AND Van Dyke...I’m just surprised they didn’t go for the trifecta and call Caleb Williams as well lol.

Trent Dilfer winning a super bowl is proof that the Ravens D that year was the best ever

True. I remember hearing Shannon Sharpe once talk about how before every game Ray and Ed would come to the offense and say, “Just give us 10 points y’all that’s all we need.”

I am obviously biased because I grew up in Bmore, but I say that Defense was the best ever, yes, better than the '85 Bears.

Johnson was definitely better. Still a poor excuse for a QB who won a SB thanks to their defense
Yeah he was very much an average quarterback. But Dilfer was garbage tier.

Wasn’t Dilfer hated in Tennessee HS circles for cheating and recruiting a bunch of out of state players when he was a HS coach?

I don’t know about lifetime bans, but I do agree coaches should not be allowed to contact players who are not in the portal. There’s rules against it already. Problem is there’s too many back channels of communication to prevent it. Players are social with other players on other teams, or their high school coaches know coaches who know coaches.

And what about NIL opportunities presented to players under the guise of ‘if you were playing at a bigger name school’, not naming names. Or naming names for that matter.

The one that made me laugh last year was Addison transferring from Pittsburgh to USC. His transfer was practically announced on ESPN before the portal even opened. I’m sure I’m exaggerating a bit but my point is everyone seem to know and assume that was going to happen. It was just a matter of waiting until the day or two after the portal open to make it look legitimate. At least that’s how I remember it, maybe I’m wrong.

He had no problem stealing money while pretending to play quarterback for the 2000 Ravens.

Hypocrit

Dilfer's cappin'. Who believes this s-h-i-t:

“They are in my office in tears. ‘I don’t want to leave, but my dad is being told by the collective or by my high school coach, or by the frickin’ player director at Power Five school, that I can make way more money with them than with [UAB].’ He’s crying. He doesn’t want to leave. It is tampering.”
