Tremendous year over year improvement

i think you guys are forgetting that last season was arguably one of the worst seasons in our history

if you can't see how we're not the same team last year - a team that lost by two touchdowns at home to middle Tennessee, a team that lost by 23 to duke, by 42 to FSU, by 30 to clemson, and by 26 to Pitt then you're blind and squinting won't help

obviously, Mario has underperformed and these need to be wins next year, but saying we improved over last year is a pretty low bar and is not something that is even debatable

I still don't see the improvement. Losses are losses. Period. The only improvement over a loss is a win, nothing else.

Improvement? We won 1 more game than last year and we're bowl eligible.

Minute improvement at best.

here are our rankings according to the 247 composite for the ten years prior to Mario. When you factor in the 22 class that Mario closed and the 23 class which was all his, we've had 4 straight classes ranked in the top 20. Top 20 classes at UM ain't gonna cut it.

I admit I was wrong to overestimate Mario's progress in recruiting. I thought there was a starker difference between Mario and the previous coaches in terms of class rankings. I also thought the average talent was better. I was right when it comes to 2022 and 2023. But for 2024, even though we're currently 11th in class ranking, the average talent is 19th. That's not a good result.

I don't think Top 5 is reasonable to expect. I do think Top 10-12 is. So 11th would be okay for me provided the average talent was also near top 10. But I fully agree 19th is too low. There will always be guys like Broussard and Wheatley-Humphrey that you take regardless of ranking. But we do have too many projects right now. I'd personally trade up around 5 current commits. Hope Mario closes strong!

Net/net, I maintain my overall perspective that we're headed in the right direction. But I agree there are red flags.

I'm definitely not saying we have to be top 5. Was just saying that if we're around the high teens to twenty, that probably spells trouble. We'll always get a couple of studs so if we're around 20, that means we probably got some projects to go with them. You and I agree; 10-ish to 12-ish is where I feel we have to be. Anything worse than that and we're in trouble.

At this pace, we might win 10 games in Mario’s 5th or 6th year, assuming we don’t have any setbacks.

What's wrong with winning 10 games in year 5 or 6? Anyone who looked at Cristobal 's coaching and philosophy knew with certainty that it would take that long for Cristobal to get the program there.

Don't look at what other coaches are doing in year 1 or 2 and ask "why can't we be like them." Do you think Warren Buffett looks at Mark Zuckerberg and wishes he had been like Zuck and invented something to become a billionaire in his late 20's? Of course not. It took Buffett 80+ years but through the power of compound interest, he became one of the richest men in the world.

I think Cristobal has taken a long term view - as we all should. Cristobal possibly put all that NIL money that was supposed to go to QBs and DTs and invested it in a high yield money market account, which you can find at around 5.1%. Cristobal could easily coach into his 90s because his style of football is timeless. So let's say that we had 10 million in NIL for all the 5 star players, but Cristobal wisely invested it and went after low cost 3 stars instead.

That will turn into $76 million in only 40 years! That's the type of $$$ that can buy #1 classes for 3-4 years in a row. Be patient - we will reach the promised land in time.

These posts have been made every year for the last decade. This is moral victory by definition. A loss is a loss and no one remembers close games, nor do they care.
What do you mean this makes sense? No it doesn't. This is childish, lame, and a defeatist attitude.
This is such beta-cuck behavior. None of these " close games" have **** to do with the future. There's no correlation.

So teams go from being blow out to winning against good teams? No they don’t the team isn’t far off. Go cry in ur cuck chair I’m not happy but people who are objective have said Miami is a good team and can play with anyone this year. Now will they continue to build from there into next year I have no clue but u sound dumb tbh

I guess 1-10 Kent State could be national champs if they had just managed to score more points than their opponents all those games.

While the record leaves a lot to be desired this is easily a team that could be anywhere from 9-2, 10-1 to 4-7. The only game where we really didn’t have a shot was NC State and possibly Carolina. Otherwise we have been in every game and a few plays either way would have changed the outcome for better or worse.

That’s a dramatic improvement from a year ago when we weren’t even competitive. We’ve dramatically in a number of areas most noticeably along the lines. The good thing is we’re loaded along the oline and have some difference makers on the dline. With the playmakers we have coming in and a transfer quarterback we can be dangerous next year.

I look at this compared to Marios Oregon teams and we obviously don’t have a Herbert but it won’t be that hard to find an Anthony Brown. The main difference is we don’t have a Joe Moorhead and are a little less developed at a few spots.

One of my main gripes though is the schedule. I don’t know how it gets made- if it’s us or the con but it’s ridiculous to play 8 straight conference games with the bye before it. You need a break in conference play. Bama and LSU always have a bye before their game which is usually after game 5 of conference play, then they play a cream puff the 2nd to last week. Our schedule is nuts.
Rinse and repeat.

This team could easily be _______________

9-2, 10-1, good, decent, better, West Virginia, less penalized, less hated by ACC officiating, bigger, faster, meaner…blah blah blah

What good teams have we beaten? Good = Ranked. We have won nothing of the such. This is delusion at best. You have HOPE and nothing of substance to base your point.
If you were to show me a progression report, from multiple teams, that go from losing games because of not kneeling, bad clock management, bad gameplanning and adjustments to all of a sudden becoming CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS then you may have a point.

There is no such thing as being far off. Either you win or you don't. Being far off is a team that DOESNT lose games from coaching blunders. A team that needs a little more experience, A little more talent, that is well coached, and doesn't lose games from dumb penalties and coaches making dumb calls. They are competitive in every game but the talent ain't there yet.

We got a top 15 roster and losing games from **** that has absolutely NOTHING to do with "another year of experience".

"They will continue to build from there" build what dude? Build the ability to kneel the ball to close a game? That take 5 years to build? I didn't know. None of what we needed to win the games we lost this year takes years to build on.

" You sound dumb" how do I sound through typed words? You can hear me bro? Talk about being dumb 🤣🤣🥰

U guys that hate Mario so much act like the Miami job is a legit top 20 job in the country and also act like our team was/is loaded with nfl guys. This year more than last year. Also act like this team has been playing hard every week when in years past they have given up by Nov1. Sure we’re losing and I hate and hate moral victories but to say u can’t see the TEAM is building towards winning isn’t clear it is. TVD single handedly took away 2-3 wins which is what it is. What is ur solution ? Fire Mario now and hire a slap **** like manny again bc those are the days who we hire

Again. What does having a bunch of NFL guys have to do with losing games from not kneeling? Instilling discipline in players to not get unsportsmanlike penalties that fuq our chances. Not have coaches getting sideline penalties that lead to touchdowns? WHAT TEAMS HAVE WE LOST TO FULL OF ALL THESE NFL GUYS? By all metrics this is a top 15 roster. So what are you typing about in here mane?

You play hard during a loss or you play soft during a loss. Guess what? It's still a loss and it's not a legitimate indicator of future success.

TvD took away 2-3 wins? No. The coaches waited until the week of the Louisville game to ask TvD what plays he struggled with and what he liked to Do. They could have done that during the bye week. So no, the coaches took 2-3 wins from us because they didn't coach the boys up.

I've already given my solution. My profile is open to click on and read my previous posts to come to a better understanding. Your lazy just like your takes and opinions that lack substance.

I've had 2 decades of experience suffering through supporting this team and a strong football acumen to discern good coaching from the contrary. Mario should be fired for THE GT GAME ALONE but I've never given that as a solution.

Mario needs to stop being a b*tch and being conservative. Mario needs to instill DISCIPLINE AND ACCOUNTABILITY and let his coaches control the game on game day.

Mario needs to use his off-season to gain better understanding of situational football and how to manage and maximize timeouts. Those are simple fixes that would turn this team around.

Getting more NFL guys doesn't teach a coach how to take a **** knee, dude.

Talking about we Hate Mario. Foh. We LOVE MIAMI football more than we hate Mario and we gone check ANY MF getting in the way of the success of this team no matter WHO it is Mario or whoever. Mario is not above criticism and reproach. He's a man who makes mistakes and can learn

He doesn't need yall MFs attacking faithful loyal fans to support him when he fuqin up. Do you love the Canes or Mario?

Get off it and get out ya feelings.

I’ve watched for 20 years as well and in the last 15 this team is different from the previous coaches here. But I’ll concede since ur football smart. Give a solution. Fire Mario what do u do? All his players leave in the portal and ur coach that they hire is Lashlee since I’m sure u loved him
