I just moved to Asheville form the Seattle area and heading to the unc game to watch Berrios Jr. get his revenge while the country realizes that TVD should be drafted above maye.

A college buddy of mine from San Diego is flying out to meet up Friday and we're staying two nights. I was thinking we book something near the warehouse district downtown and just uber to the stadium Saturday (37 miles or so, I know)..

Any other suggestions for the area? Oldish timer (first game was Syracuse in the OB 1993), Mid-40s here, craft beer fan, decent restaurants, etc. Thanks,

Stay near downtown Chapel Hill, amazing college town with lots of awesome bars and restaurants. Med Deli is amazing and so is Heavenly Buffalos. Lots of other options. Walk Franklin Street and you'll have a blast.
Med Deli is dog food. Do not eat there. I second Heavenly. Very good.

Look for an Air BnB or Vrbo near campus. Much better value and closer walk to everything. If you stay in Raleigh it’ll be $40 Uber to the game and $50+ back. Leave early too if you’re in Raleigh. Traffic coming up 40 and 15/501 on campus is a disaster on big gamedays.

Durham is an ok place to stay, you can save money that way. On 15-501 closer to Chapel Hill is cool as well. Raleigh is too far away. Also, Carrboro and Morrisville may save you some dollars as well.

That won't be an issue. I believe it burned down lol.
It did but it’s scheduled to open back up in October. They’ve been running their catering out of what used to be Elaine’s on West Franklin. I believe they’re gonna start using that as dining space as well.

**** everything in North Carolina. Well except for Beech mountain but only when it snows.

I like the entire state, but I LOVE Banner Elk and the surrounding areas. It was the families summer vacation spot forever, staying in one of the stilt homes my mother would rent for a month atop Beech.

I take my kids there every winter to see snow.

Funny enough, I recently did a year long trip across the country and did a month in Seattle, Asheville and Durham as part of the trip...

I have stayed in all 3 Triangle cities and personally like Durham the best. It's not as "big" as the other areas, but there is still plenty of stuff to keep you busy for a weekend.

UNC is definitely your best option for ease of commute on game day, but Durham and Raleigh really aren't far. The last time I went out in Chapel Hill at night, it felt too much like a college town to me to the point where I felt very old and out of place and that was when I was ~30 (now in my 40s). I probably just went to the wrong area and I am sure people who have been there recently can make recs on what is appropriate for an older crowd.

If you are into breweries (I assume you are if you moved to Asheville) I went to the following places and enjoyed them:

Durham:
- Ponysaurus Brewing: a little bit off of the 'downtown' but a good crowd and solid beers
- Glass Jug: downtown and a bit small, but very solid beers
- Fullsteam: easy walk from downtown, no frills brewery but good beers and and next to The Pit BBQ which is solid. Parts and Labor is a cool bar across the street and there are some other decent options nearby too.

Chapel Hill:
- Gizmo (I believe they have a Raleigh location too)

Raleigh:
- Bhavana more of a fancy(ish) restaurant that also brews, but the food is very good

I can provide some more recs if you end up in Durham, just let me know.

Edit: Also if you get a chance and haven't already, make sure to check out the Dupont Forest waterfall hike and Craggy Pinnacle close to Asheville. And a brewery I really liked in Asheville that was not in the main area and was mostly locals was Hillman Beer

I've skied Beech, Sugar, and Hawksnest (when it had skiing) dozens of times. It's not out West, but I've never had a bad time. Out West, Telluride is a must visit if you ever get the chance. Big Sky is on my one day to do list.

I used to play music with the guy who started Gizmo... Brian. He brews a great stout and porter. Good bass player too.

It looks like you've been given good advice.

As a Cane fan, I appreciate that you're going out to Chapel Hill.

I believe Coach understands how much we need to beat these f****.

Enjoy it I think we'll bring them a f****** serious game.

I would give advice but I went to South Carolina to see my grandpa pass. 2 years ago.

Go be a Cane!
