Is there a date that transfer portal player has to commit by to be eligible to play next season

bump. lots of questions about this topic

May 1st is the deadline for them to declare their intentions to be placed in the portal. However, they don't have to decide where their going until the school they are planning to attending begins classes.

Seems reasonable.

Many (not all) of our transfers have some sort of South Florida connection. Transfers that are highly rated coming out of high school are likely attending schools in the SEC, B10 (Ohio Taint and Michigan), PAC12 (USC and Oregon) and others. So, this proposed rule will not have much of an impact on us. It could, however, conceivably hurt us when a three star local player has success at another ACC school and then decides he wants to come home. We would need to secure that transfer sooner.

kind of dumb. ACC has an advantage now by getting SEC players after Feb 1 that would rather go to the SEC but cant. see: Mims. If the ACC wants to accelerate the talent drain to other conferences then sure, pass this rule

EDIT:

I am a glutton for punishment so I decided the see who has transferred from one ACC school to another after Feb 1. Only 2 thus far. Brownly FSU to Louisville and Cory Brown Miami to UVA

Dumb move. ACC is garbage at football. Why institute a rule that will make kids transfer out of conference.

Look at all the kids who left the SEC because of that rule.

Each individual coach might be in favor of it, tragedy of the commons style. But it hurts the conference. And Phillips job is to make it stronger not weaker.

SEC can afford a rule like this, ACC can not
