Do players need to declare their intentions of hitting the portal by 12:01 AM

OR do they still have the whole day tommorow to hit the portal?

Read in another thread players most notify their current school by May 1st, and the school then has 48-hours to process the request.

Or something like that.

"A student-athlete must provide their current school with a written request to enter the NCAA Transfer by May 1 if they participate in a fall or winter sport'. Referred to below as "notification of transfer". (Source - NCAA website)

Process

Written requests are sent to the college/university's Athletic compliance office who must validate the transfer request, athlete eligibility and then the compliance office enters the players name in the portal within 48 business hours (2 business days).... Important: Players cannot enter their own name into the portal.

Summary

So based on the rules and the process......."notification of transfer” written requests may be sent through end of day today (by 5/1) then 48 hours of compliance office verification would occur on business days Monday-Tuesday (2 business days) so the period for names entering the portal may continue through Tuesday, 5/3.

Here is the official NCCA Ruling from their website!

1. They need to notify the school by the deadline.
2. Then it takes 48 hours to appear in the Portal.
3. We could still be seeing names HIT the Portal for the next couple of days, guys who still beat the May 1 deadline for notifying the school.
4. Portal opens again August 1, but those guys need to have a waiver (NCAA is likely to require HARDship waivers more stringently) or possibly be a grad-transfer like Jarrid Williams was.
5. I would expect that there could be some August 1 grad-transfer guys (both coming and going), so pay attention to the guys who are trying to knock out 12 (or more) credits between Summer 1 and Summer 2.
6. Don't rule out some forgotten guys, like the kid from Jacksonville State. He is busy taking summer classes to be able to transfer in as an undergrad, but he definitely beat the Portal deadline.
