I don’t know which thread to post this in. But this is absolutely crazy in my opinion. This would be the equivalent to FIU’s HC leaving for FNU (Florida National University)

Umass program has been bad for a long time and Wesleyan is basically a Jr Ivy League school ( I would be willing to bet the money isn’t much different ) so stability will be there and maybe other perks ( Housing or education ) Don’t see it often but it happens up here in some cases ..

Yes, it sounds crazy but that's the economic reality for these low level D1 programs. Their football programs cost their athletic departments $ every season.
The big time programs went from 11.65 scholarships to 20-25 or even the full 34.
I'm betting these lower rung programs aren't even at 11.65.
I can only imagine what the budget is for the coaching salaries.... especially in an area with a high cost of living.

Yeah like others have mentioned I bet the pay difference isnt crazy. Difference is he wont have to worry about NIL. He will set up shop at the Stanford Camp, Headfirst, etc (all the high academic showcases), get them do do early decision. And potentially create a well oiled D3 machine.

Will get kids to stick around for 4 years. Occasionally have a kid turn into a stud that he may lose after 2-3 years but that will become a recruiting pitch then

Probably gets whatever he wants, whenever he wants in the blink of an eye there too.

D2, D3, and NAIA jobs are still somewhat normal compared to D1 jobs. A lot less stress as well and you'll keep your job forever winning 30 games a year outside of 5-10 schools that want more than that.

Juco HC is the place to be right now. Guys leaving after 2 years and reloading every year has always been the case for them. Still exactly the same but you now get way more access to guys cut from D1 with these roster limitations. They're used to the churn.

Just for an example: Our former player and HC of Towson, Matt Tyner said that Towson was at 6 total scholarships before the new rule change. The AD told him he will be staying at 6 scholarships.

It reminds me of the time Tim Murphy left UofCinncinati's HV gig to take over the Harvard program. Cincy wasn't as competitive as it is now, but many were still perplexed at his decision. At some point he mentioned job security in an interview, implying that all he had to do was being moderately successful at Harvard whereas similar results at Cincy would put him on the hot-seat.

The story gets crazier

I guarantee that these new co-assistants have wives that work.
The former assistant (Tyler Holt)at Boston College was making under $50K when he left the program. Mind you that is in Boston, not Stillwater.
A few years back the HC at Michigan State left to become an assistant at LSU.
The $ disparities in baseball are unbelievable at all the different levels.... SEC, MAC, lower rung ACC teams, HBCU's, D3....

I know it seems insane but it’s not apples to apples with your comparison. UMass continues to **** around with no strategic vision for athletics, baseball being among the most egregious.

It’s the flagship state school and is a very strong academic institution nationally (you might laugh but it’s true) but has fallen behind its glorified commuter sister schools in pretty much all sports other than football (cost for those other programs) and hockey on the men’s side.

Boston College is Boston College but no reason UMass should be outclassed by Harvard, BU, Northeastern, Lowell, Holy Cross, Merrimack, Stonehill in anything other than hockey and that’s only by the first three on that list.

Look no further than the football program failing to beat FCS opponents on a semi-regular basis. Probably should have made the jump when UConn did but still not an excuse for what their athletics has become across the board.

Sorry for the rant.

This is hilarious, 1 month ago Easton Marks was a Cane, and now he’s getting interviewed by his old school like he never transfered out

This dude retweeting FIU propaganda like he never left ...What a waste of time that was. Wonder what other pitchers we could have pursued instead???

Really? This bothers you, he was here for 10 minutes. He was taken in the 19th round. You can’t blame JD for that.

10 minutes? He was being pushed as the Friday night starter after he committed here. Miami should of matched his signing bonus to make sure he came here instead of went all in on him and missed on other arms in the transfer portal

He's a good coach. He follows me on Twitter, and I send him some players so Miami can recruit them in the future. Like our boy Luca Reyes

I’m glad Karsten Whitson is doing good, I had a friend that knew his family when was drafted as a Top 10 pick, and turned down $2.1 million to go to UF just to get injured to eventually signing for only $100k signing bonus 4 years later
