Transfer Portal - Baseball 2025-26

we are going to have to either A) risk cutting a freshman who has some potential but just needs time or B) JD is going to have to bet on some young guys and cut 1-2 older guys who he feels might be maxed.

Either way we are likely going to lose 2-3 guys who can play but someone has to go.

Its an awful job to have to do.

I have been saying this for weeks. It's going to be more than 2-3 in my opinion. Remember that Robert and Menendez count as roster spots even though they probably won't play
My question is how many pitchers are you going to keep?
How many position players?

yeah I should have been a bit more clear...there is typically 2-3 easy ones. After that is when it will get tricky.
 
Arkansas had 51 players on their fall roster last year and cut it down to the limit. This is merely the way it is done in today's baseball (which stinks because players can't transfer to D1 in mid-semester).

I've always believed coaches should have to cut to the 34 limit prior to fall ball so the players have an opportunity to transfer and play that season, but they don't want that because then coaches would have to evaluate and make roster decisions before getting the benefit of watching them go through fall camp and having the competition replace evaluations for the most part.

Reality is players will go to fall camp and if you get hurt and are a fringe player, you're going to get cut.

Another aspect of roster manipulation that coaches do these days is having players you plan to redshirt get removed from the roster, be regular students, you give them a workout and training plan, keep them around the program without officially on the roster and then they can return to fall camp the next year and try again.

Dirty game.

Does Miami still have “ Club “ baseball - Could some play there ? I know Tampa has a JV team ( Is that not allowed in D1 ? ) I would rather see us keep extra arms as that seems to be what breaks down more often than not …. It is too bad injured guys have to fill a spot ….

Happened to me except it was an injury from spring football - which they didn't want me to play - so they cut me out of spite for that IMO. Put me in my 3rd school in a year and a half as a RS freshman.

As a result, screwed myself out of D1 ball because I opted to go to a D2 school (out of convenience of being closer to home on late notice and having to buy out of the 12 month lease that I signed) instead of finding a juco. Ignorant 19 year old me at the time didn't realize you couldn't move up from D2 to D1 without sitting.

Jv teams aren't allowed in D1. There is a Club team but it's nothing compared to the real deal

California is sort of the hot bed for club teams. UCLA has a pretty famous club team that has some cache as part of their program to work your way onto real team. A few guys have moved from club team and made an impact in their bullpen. As college baseball has grown, the impact has dramatically lessened. Kids just go elsewhere.

It's sort of their version of the walk-on program at Nebraska football.

To me, I cannot imagine doing that when I could go Juco. In Juco, the scholarships are full-rides and then you can get a D1 offer a lot easier than the portal now because they are setup to do so. They have heavily attended scout days where you get real exposure and they're earlier in the year so D1 teams aren't in full-steam mode yet.

If I were a fringe P4 guy, I'm leaving after my freshman year with P4 on my resume, going to Juco to get playing time to get stats and eyes-on, no debt, then transferring to a high G5 or a P4 with an opening at my spot.

California and some SEC schools have legit club teams, we are not even close
