I follow the NFL draft all year long and a lot of professional scouts already talking and dropping clips about the 2023 draft class. TVD seems to be top 5ish going into the year (Stroud, Young, Levis (Kentucky), TVD, Leary (NC State) is the order I see the most so far) and its always cool getting to see Miami players broken down unbiasedly to help setup realistic expectations.

With that said, more than a few scouts have noted how poorly Miami's offense was designed as far as helping the QB (lots of downfield throws with nothing underneath or a check down for the QB to hit if the deep routes don't get open). Thought that was really interesting as I know a few people have pointed how much TVD threw to 1 WR and some of the YOLO balls he got away with last year. This isn't really a knock to Lashlee because they probably were max protecting to help the oline, but I'm very excited to see how we look in what I expect to be a more QB friendly offense.

The things I've seen mentioned most by scouts as areas to work on are:

1. Having quicker feet and movement in the pocket
2. Shortening/speeding up his arm motion or having better anticipation to compensate

I think both are pretty fixable with his arm motion being more of an NFL issue than NCAA because I think he was the arm strength to overcome that vs almost all teams on our schedule.

Figure if anybody sees anything about Miami players we can drop them in here

I think some people forget he's a 1 year starter.

He's already very, very good. He could become excellent with more coaching / experience.

He made a quantum leap last year.

I been beating the drum since 2020 about how poor our overall passing strategy was.

I am glad the scouts saw it too.

TVD will have a big year. We will control games much better in 2021.

You don’t get check down options when you leave your back and tight end in to block every time.

It wasn’t just the max protect though.

There was a lot of problems with route designs and play calls vs the defensive call.

It was really bad for King at times. Plays running receivers into coverage like the defense already knew the play. It got better as the year went on and Rooster became effective in the passing game.

Lashlee did a lot of good too but his shortcomings made the offense streaky. Combined poor execution from Manny’s poor preparation, we left a lot of yards and points on the field.

Over the last 6 games TVD averaged 66% - 366 yds - 3TD's - 0.5 INT per game

I mean....the play call won't always be perfect, but that seems pretty **** good. Seems like it's really nitpicking to call last year a poor passing scheme.

What are people expecting this year? 70% - 400 yds - 4TD's - 0 INT per game?

Mario failed to land a RT from the portal so with Campbell or Scaife in that spot, we might need fo max protect once again. Will be put to the test against A&M for sure and Clemson, hoping but not expecting the right side of the line to hold up

I don’t get the Will Levi’s love. Admittedly I watched him more at Penn State than Kentucky last year, which may Nike my entire argument right off the bat.
He is a plus athlete, though not tall, likes to run first and that was his role with Penn State.
He has a big but not huge arm, his accuracy comes and goes, drops his eyes to the rush and doesn’t go through progressions well. However, 66% completion percentage is pretty good and suggests he is doing something right.
But there is a lot of “can he Joe Burrow” his way from unknown to NFL draft pick. Putting a lot in that and also hoping he is Josh Allen 2.0.
Since I don’t rate him, he will go on the be a HoFer in 20 years.

We got better as the year went on.

@Cribby has said Likens input had a lot to do with the improvements.

NC State
Pitt
FSU
GT
VT
Duke

Can only play who's on your schedule, but this is where some of the apprehension comes from. Also, he's not sneaking up on anyone this year. If he averages 350+ on over 66% completions this year, he's going to be very wealthy next April.

If anyone is realistically expecting 400 yards a game I've got a nice oceanfront property in Oklahoma to sell them.

Looking at what Michigan did last year plus our own HC's desire to own the LOS I'm hoping he can be around 275 a game with 65-70% completion. Mix that 275 passing yards with around another 175-215iish rushing yard per game and the offense will be fine.
