Touchdown Tommy?

I always only remember it during his tenure which is crazy to me. Idk why I only noticed it during that tenure. See this something I never ever knew, that’s crazy to me. Learn something everyday man
Yes, it’s one of UM’s oldest traditions. Lil Joe was the name of the cannon we had before it for a few years, and then they got TT. Sigma Chi frat basically takes care of it and pulls the cannon. A friend of mine who is a brother says that pulling TT at a game is one of his best memories from college.

And it’s still up on UM’s website:

Ghosts of the OB has some info here too:

Corny as ****, always felt like we were just trying to be more like a big state school. That and signing Alma Mater after the game (which I believe wasn't even a thing until Shannon took over), which always felt fake...maybe because we lost so much.
The Alma Mater did not start with Shannon. It is another one of UM’s oldest traditions and has been around forever.

Here’s some history:

You do realize UM is a university, right? We have things like homecoming and traditions and all the same things that other schools have too? We aren’t trying to be “like a big state school” by having these things. Private schools can have traditions too. We aren’t an NFL team.

If you were in the Orange Bowl west endzone, sometimes the only way you knew they crossed the east endzone goal line was the cannon going off.

I think a photographer sued the frat for hearing loss after he stepped in front of the cannon and it hasn’t been seen since

Does anyone know what happened with the Cannon for home games? I can’t find any information about it and I don’t recall hearing it for a few years , did it get discontinued?

Apparently there was an issue about 10 or 15 years in Hard Rock where someone complained and the use of the cannon was "retired".

And I probably don't need to tell you who the AD was at the time.

Nope. No. Not letting you get past with this one.

Singing the alma mater has ALWAYS been a thing at football games. I've been doing it since the 1980s, when JJ was the coach and Jankovich was the AD, neither of whom are UM alums.

You may not have noticed it in the old Orange Bowl, because the players always went over to the student section to sing. Perhaps it is more obvious in Joe Robbie Stadium (yeah, I'm going old school), but we have been doing this long before Randy Shannon.
