Torrance Gibson (updated rankings)

gotta love coleys qb instincts. Winston seems to be turning out quite well for himself. FSU has had a running/dual threat qb for a long time (im including ponder in that although he doesn't so much at the next level)

people keep acting like Winston was a "FIND"....DUDE WAS ARGUABLY THE TOP QB RECRUIT IN HIS CLASS.......got**** everybody an their mama offered the kid...even Barry University and they dfont even have a program

Everybody except good old Mack Brown. Who thought he didn't have a chance :rollcanes:

Crazy thing is this kid supposedly "loved" Miami

everybody ****ing loves Miami

Found? Was Winston ever lost...kid was #1 rated QB...

All Craig and Dumbo do was figure out a way to slide money to his mama and promised him that he could play baseball...

Dameyune Craig and Jimbo "found" Winston. Winston wouldn't even be at fsu if it weren't for craig

I like the idea of taking Gibson as our QB for multiple reasons. He has great athleticism and athletic tools, but we won't be in a rush to get him on the field. We have 2 QBs on the roster and 1 committed that will be ready before him. Get him on campus, get him in the system and start working on his game. He would be ready by his RS JR year. If he can't wait or it's just not there, he's a sick athlete and can become a dynamic WR or S for us. Also, don't discount the fact that he is a highly ranked, South Florida QB. Stars and rankings really don't mean everything, but the perception is big. If we can land the 5* South Florida QB, others South Florida kids will take notice.

Offer him whatever he wants. Kayaa and Olsen will be there as well, so there will be plenty of depth at QB

Incredible athleticism. Just get him and figure out his position later.

How great is this athleticism in general? I hear this all the time, take this QB bring him in and make him a DB or Slot WR because his athleticism is off the charts.

IMO, It doesn't work like this really anymore unless you explain this to them and they understand. Even then some kids don't want to hear about possibly changing positions. Look at Treon Harris, he is being an offered by FSU at QB. Not many teams (maybe just other small schools) want to offer him at QB because they don't want to deal with the headache.

I understand that there have been QBs who moved to other positions because they tend to be the most athletic player on a HS team but when they are stuck on playing QB you better make sure they understand if you intend to move them.

I'm not insinuating that the coaching staff is going to mislead the young man and recruit him only to change his position once he signs. If anything, this is the last coaching staff to pull such a stunt. But didn't this kid run a 49.00 400M dash?? This isn't your run-of-the-mill athlete, this kid is an absolute freak. I'm inclined to think he, his family and coach will be open to him to his versatility and playing other positions as his recruitment continues.

I understand, just making sure the kid knows what the deal is with his recruitment. You can have a shot at QB but if it doesn't look good we have to change positions.

Yep I'd rather the staff be upfront than lose the kid to transfer a year later.

Torrance Gibson is a tricky situation because in the right situation at qb he could be a highlight reel and get drafted at WORST in the 3rd round like Terrell Pryor. On the other hand if he has to switch to wr he can be a 1st rounder like a Cordarelle Patterson (use him as an example of because of the size and speed comparisons). Now he can have a bright future either way so he's one of the cases that you give him what he wants and see if he's willing to switch positions in the future knowing how great he can be

Back in the '90's we let Ryan Collins play QB and he was never heard from again. Our staff always thought he had a much higher ceiling at safety. He might have had an NFL career if he had listened to them.

Offer him as a QB, if he commits he competes for job and either shows he has what it takes or he is third or 4th string. No athlete like that will sit the bench and choose not to see the field at another position knowing he can tear it up out there given his physical skills.

He will ask to change positions or transfer. Odds are good he may know for himself he cant hack it at QB given how the other QBs on the team outcompeted him and stay cause he already knows he can be special at WR and has formed relationships at the program.

Another point to make is how many times have we seen this scenario where the kid lacks polish and most big programs see only an athlete without taking into account the kids desire and willingness to get better at being a QB.

This is a possible RGIII or Cam Newton scenario. Texas offerd RGIII as an athlete and UGA were looking at Newton as a TE, unknowingly giving up a sure BCS championship.

If he does improve enough as a passer this kid has a similar level of athleticism to offer some program.

I dont think there is much to lose by pursuing him as a QB, 2 out of the three possible outcomes are in the favour of the program that approaches him that way.

Given his comments so far any team that wants him needs to be talking QB to him.

Torrance Gibson is AS REAL AS IT GETS. We were at The Opening in Oregon and he was a step above any WR there and should have been

Didnt know he was that fast, he is world class at 400m for a soph.

Not a fit for us at QB, if he figures this out I hope he is open to playing WR, wouldnt take much for some adviser in his camp to point out why he will never be a QB here.
