Don't worry it's not sustainable
I mean look at the teams that are there is there a champion over the last 5 years since the transfer portal has been a big deal? I see mostly mediocre teams where a few of them have had a 10 win season here or there.

It's definitely not for FSU. Massive drop off at every position from Verse to MJJ, Travis to DJU, Coleman and Wilson to Jalen Brown and Malik Benson, and Renardo Green to Earl Little.

The RB from Indiana is basically Brashard Smith. Return specialist only. They still haven't replaced Benson or the versatile TE. Still haven't replaced their DTs or LBs and there aren't even quality options left in the portal to fill those spots at the level of Lovett, Fiske, Tatum Bethune, etc. Still a chance for them at RB though.

I am not worried about a National Championship at this time. No disrespect to you or any one else, that convo or line of thinking isn't for Miami right now. Teams who have won that, have mixture of portal and legit coaching, which we do not have right now.

Mario is not going to out coach anyone, so in my IMO he should be more aggressive in the portal to maybe catch lightning and make gameday easier for him

That remains to be seen. On paper it may be a downgrade but that is why games are played. FSU parlyed the portal into a ACC chip

Your point about “a champion in the last 5 years” is bad argument since it’s been the same 3 teams winning with the exception of this year. Ironically the one team that refuses to hit the transfer portal has fallen off (Clemson). Imo, you can’t make that point because teams like Alabama, UGA, & Ohio State had a more established infrastructure than the rest of college football. Even Michigan has been in the playoffs since 2021 and prior to 2019 they were a perennial 10 win team under Harbaugh. When you see teams like Oregon go hard in the portal taking cast offs and small school players then looking dominant like Chip’s squad, you have see there is value in it. It’s now a new source of recruiting. At one point we have to quit the sustainability argument. Especially since we have been mediocre for 20 years.

I'm in favor of using the transfer portal to fill holes in your roster. When it gets hairy is when teams start trying to fill starting spots with transfers who have little to no playing experience. You want to take a flier on a former top recruit who couldn't get on the field at his old school? No problem, just don't rely on that guy to be your new starter at that position.

Teams with a big transfer portal additions are really unknowns for the following year.... lots of ACC teams on that list.....

FSU is going to crash and burn this year in glorious fashion.

Is that…no, my eyes must be deceiving me…

Cocaine Kiffin at 1? A coach that can coach and recruit, imagine that.

Not too worried about FSU but all in all, we’ve been doing a horrible job in the portal. And now, we don’t even have ample spots til the Spring. We completely botched the January window.

Louisville is my favorite to win the ACC right now. They’ve been doing a great job.

Serious question as I don't follow this stuff like I used to and surely not FSU.

You say there's a drop off at every position. Verse, he was from Albany, right? Was he thought of the same as he is now?

Of course there's going to be a drop-off. Only one I know offhand is DJ and while not Travis, he might surprise people if he has the talent to work with. Good rehab for him out West this season.

They do certainly have alot to replace.

FCS All-American and averaged like 1 sack per game over 2 years before FSU. He flashed on film too.

Not sure people predicted future 1st rounder but it should have been clear he was going to be an effective pass rusher.

We pursued but we were slow and methodical about it. Let him take 4 visits and couldn't get him here for his 5th visit before he wanted to enroll. He told us multiple times he wanted to enroll by X date at whatever school he chooses and we kept assuming he would visit and enroll closer to the last day to add a course. He didn't want to and shut it down for FSU and enrolled and never showed up for his visit. We move so much slower than everyone else.
