Top Quotes From Miami’s Staff Following UNC Win

I really like Heatherman and ain’t gonna bail yet like a lot are.

But **** that quote from Bill ***** is damning. Ultimate slap in the face.

It was more than what you see is what you get. It’s these guys didn’t only not change up in game while getting burnt, this is all he’s capable of.
Atleast towards the end the announcers said they were in cover 2

Heatherman needs to look in the mirror… yes missed tackles have hurt

But failing to see comfortable QBs in the pocket getting easy completions is something that needs to be addressed. And no the long telegraphed safety blitzes isn’t the cure for that

Your paid very well to figure it the **** out…

heatherman basically blames everything on missed tackles and not swarming to the ball. said they evaluated whether they got outschemed and decided no, they didn't.

do I trust that, or do I trust 9999 knowledgeable posters and ahmmon richards that say yes, we got out-schemed?
There aren’t 9 knowledgeable posters much less 9999.

Heatherman also said repeatedly there was a big lack of communication. No swarming; guys standing around.
This is true and also apparent much of the season.

But it’s kinda his job to fix it. I pointed it out earlier in the season it didn’t seem like we swarmed the ball the same way.

I think Corey is a good coach & bright guy in general.

The issue is that philosophically he's willing to allow one aspect of the Defense to be severed in order to protect the other & in most games, it works. The problem is, not every OC is as dumb as the last & the more you put your glaring weaknesses on film, eventually someone is going to recognize it & exploit it. Which is exactly what Bobby Motorcycle did.

Hopefully, that was just a one off & not a reoccurring theme.

It would be concerning if he doesn't make adjustments & decides to go the stubborn route.

I don’t think that will be the case. I think Corey is smart enough to know that he can't just leave the middle of the field open & not expect for Offenses not to attack it.

I expect the Defense to play much better vs Noter Lame.

Billy Edwards doesnt go 10 straight completions cause of miss tackles...

Mix your sh*t up buddy....n i didnt see any safeties jumping any **** routes they were standing flat footed n looking confused half the time..all of em..down to Bryce Fitzgerald at the end of the game covering grass with the obvious slot threat catching a pitch n catch td while in cover 2.

Do you expect him to come out with similar schematics against ND? I feel like our staff keeps things vanilla ish and really brings it in the big games. We rearely are out coached in big games (playoffs last year is obvious example).

I also felt like last year when we got to the playoffs we had a much more aggressive base defense. What I mean by this is not more blitzing, but more man on man and stout instead of softer zones. We had a true freshman 1 on 1 with JJ Smith at a certain point for ***** sake.

A part of me thinks we come out against ND this way, but at the same time we really have been bad. What do you expect to see?

Let’s establish some facts. All last year Heatherman was great at half time adjustments. Teams could barely score in second half. That is a sure sign of a guy that can make adjustments.

Belicheck can be a real prick and it’s not surprising he took shots at Heatherman. Just because he said it doesn’t mean it’s true or accurate. He just sounded like an old salty dude. Using a quote by a coach that just lost his season as a way to backup an argument is faulty reasoning.

Heatherman has struggled this year in second half. WF had more success in second half. FSU had equal success. UNC had equal success. So now you see a trend.

So what does that all mean? First it doesn’t mean Heatherman sucks. He clearly proved he was a great coach last year. This year he has struggled. Why? Personnel is one. But what you also see is teams have keyed in on tendencies. Likely presnap looks that have been accumulated over 20 games. You can tell some of these offenses know exactly what type of play to run against certain looks. You also have a team that is tackling horribly. You add all that up and you have a struggling defense. I think it can all be fixed. You will definitely see different looks on D this week. We better see better tackling. But let’s stop with the Heatherman sucks comments just because a bitter old coach is all ****ed off.

I certainly hope not.

It would be pretty bizarre if he did.

Noter is going to work the Screen game quite a bit with Jordan Faison & attack Xavier Lucas with the Deep ball with Micah Gilbert.

They probably won't work the TE's in the seams as much as UNC did, but they're definitely going to attack our Nickel with the Slot Jaden Greathouse in the Seams.

They will also try to establish the run early & to work Play Action RPO's in the 3rd & 4th quarter.

They're going to be missing 2 of their best CB's, so we'll have an advantage in the passing game.

The game will come down to;
Offense:
- Explosive plays
- Taking advantage of Field position
- Protecting the Football
Defense:
- Stopping the run
- Covering the Slot
- Tackling on Screen plays
- Forcing Turnovers

We use those keys to success, we'll unlock the door to victory.

Multiple things can be true at once. I wish they taught that in school.

Yes, we could have sucked at tackling and ‘swarming’

AND

QBs can be insanely comfortable throwing into windows for multiple weeks now and WRs don’t have anyone around them. We don’t break up passes or make too many plays on the ball.

So, I don’t know, a little worried about the black/white logically flawed thinking.
Don't know if you're referring to posters or Heatherman, but this quote stood out to me:

“So there's little things that we can clean up, and there's little tweaks that we adjust, and there's little wrinkles where we're getting attacked right now on defense that we see what they're doing, and we see teams, they're copying the same thing from the week before. And we'll have answers for that, how to take away certain things.”

That makes it seem like he sees what needs to be adjusted.

separately, Mo Toure is the only guy that stands out to me as someone who has blown up a block in recent games and shut down a play. Even in the last game , Smith and all 240 lbs of him tries to duck under a puller instead of taking him head-on, and the screen goes for 15+. The "block destruction" that was a huge part of last year's defense is completely gone.

Just a couple of wrinkles and more physicality, and it should be a good game against ND. I think Lightfoot will bring it this week.

No hiding from that...

Sounds like other teams are helping to scout against us. Wonder if Mario was talking about ****ert here…

“Remember, there are teams that need other teams to lose. You are not just playing against one staff, you are playing against all those staffs that need you to lose. Everyone is sharing information and finding your warts.”

1. Why would any of you trust anything that comes out of Bill Belichick’s mouth?

2. We missed a **** load of tackles Saturday night. Like a real **** load.

If he doesn’t think we got out schemed…lol

Bill doesn’t just say **** to say **** in press conferences, he rarely says anything to begin with

Fans are much more informed now.

Two things can be true that there were a lot missed tackles and poor execution of coverages AND their offense knew what you going to do pre snap and called plays to beat it.

Please don’t gaslight us Corey.

He did acknowledge that they adjusted by faking blitz which contributed to lightfoot sack.

Honestly, I just listened to Heatherman speak and went back to watch a bunch of those plays he cited off memory (psycho). I’m not picking up the doom and despair of 2024.

…he’s right? On a lot of it. Over-pursuit, falling for eye-candy, too-aggressive on the front 7 (mostly our LBs) while soft on the back end.

At the end of the day, the results aren’t good enough and everything will funnel back to the person in charge. His swarm mentality (which is nothing like Guidry) will lead to violent play (which conversely, we’ll have to live with some over-pursuit, missed tackles, etc).

I’m not sure if he doesn’t trust our corners to play man. Even if so, we have to mix up our secondary and back end looks more, or rotate a more balanced LB out there with Toure or Smith.

But I don’t think certain play calls were as bad as made it on here (surprise). Big game for the defense Saturday.
smh, The play calls...

How about the play calls COMBINED with what the opponent was consistently doing over the course of an entire game AND the personnel he kept trotting on the field - after he blames it all on the players.... And we changed nothing... Did we change anything from what we did against Wake, Clemson, FSU, when we got passed all over?...

Okay so does that mean we are going to see different players get opportunities if those ones weren't meeting expectation? lmao. Yeah if the guys just tackled, if they just covered better, if they just stopped over pursuing, if they just read their keys and got their faster, etc, etc... but no we aren't going to make any changes at the position he's coached and has been our greatest weakness under him (and for the past decade tbh).
