Some comparisons:
2016 Njoku - 43 rec 698 yds 8 td, Herndon 28 rec 334 yds 3 tds (This is crazy production in retrospect!!!)
2017 Herndon - 40 rec 477 yds 4 td
2017 Freshman All Americans: Bushman (BYU) 49 rec 520 yds, Bryant (WAS, only played 8 games but averaged for 13) 36 rec 533 yds

I agree that TE is not a position that naturally lends itself to early production from true freshmen, but I think come October Jordan/Mallory will be contributing in meaningful ways.
If we can get them and Irvin to combine for 60 rec 600 yds 6 tds we will have solid production from the position, and multiple weapons to attack in red zone/short yardage. Speaking of which, I think 3rd Down & Red Zone efficiency improvements would be what we need to get into the playoffs.
Biggest 2018 wildcards & new additions that can help us in red zone/3rd down:
Lawrence Cager
Realus George
Robert Burns
Brevin Jordan
Will Mallory
