Miami has officially landed one of the top talents in the Sunshine State, signing four-star defensive edge rusher Asharri Charles.

A 6-foot-2, 230-pound edge rusher from Venice, Florida, Charles has one of the best motors in the class — racking up 24.5 sacks and 205 tackles over his past two seasons where his Venice team won the 7A state championship.

This dude an EE? If so, wouldn’t shock me at all to see him get snaps as a True Frosh. Might play the Lightfoot role from this year. One of the best first steps I’ve seen come on campus in a handful of years.
How much weight do you think he needs to gain before he sees the field?

I don’t really know what he is now. I’d guess 215-220ish. He’s listed at like 225-230, and we know those are generally fluffed. I’d guess he needs to be around 235-240 to contribute real value. I don’t know if that’s possible because I’m not sure what his prior nutrition and lifting plans were like. That first step is a ++ feature. Another thing to consider is that a guy like this may light a fire under Pickett or he’ll get passed.

I’m not complaining about our edge play this season, obviously, but I’m looking forward to seeing more of Pickett next season. I’m sure he is getting hit up by other schools, but he’ll have his shot to play significant snaps next season in pass situations and make a name for himself. He SHOULD be at an adequate weight to handle it in Y3. He looks like a narrow guy up top, but I think he has the best first step on the roster.
