Top 5 Miami Football Teams of All-Time. Do you agree with this list?

Can't do that....87...91...2001...2000...all Curbstomp Penn St....86 was Ridiculously Great...but you can't lose to Penn St that yr and claim Top 2....

They didn't lose to Penn State. They outgained PSU 445 to 162. Penn State had 8 first downs in the entire football game. They ran the ball 43 times for 109 yards. **** near 50 runs and got 2 yards a pop. Miami absolutely mopped those dudes that night but Vinny forgot where the **** he was and blew the game. 2 fumbles didn't help. Turnovers have been proven to be mostly luck induced...and Miami had 7 that night. That team was infinitely better than Penn State. Just got that 1 out of 100 times where they came up short. But that was the best football team Miami ever put together save for 2001.

Not in my opinion....Ridiculously talented??...Absolutely....but you simply can NOT lose that Penn St game....79 didn't...81 didn't...91 and 92 didn't....And the 91 and 92 Penn St teams were better than 86...

I’d like to see the 1986 team play the 2001 team. My bet would be on ‘86 without a doubt. Good as JJ was, he got out coached big time in that champ game. Unfortunately I had watched the game with a PSU grad.

The only team that is potentially better than 1991 is 2001. I can't believe how many people are putting the 1991 team anything less than #2. The 1991 team would have given 2001 a serious problem. Not to mention, the 1991 staff is head and shoulders better than the 2001 staff.

Jimmy always thought that was his best team and probably were better than Penn State at every position. It was as you said “one of those nights” and what could go wrong, went wrong. That team dominated everyone they played and I always felt that was the worst loss in UM history. That team was on a mission after what happened in the Sugar Bowl the year before and came up short. Best team doesn’t always win and your analysis is spot on. College football doesn’t give many mulligans! Good call OBM

83 team is near and dear to my heart. To this day that game is still of the greatest sports experiences of my life.

But they aren’t a top 5 all time Canes team talent wise.

Historically yes. Dominance no.

That's simply not true...this coming from someone who Idolized Howard...and is close friends with a Starter on that team...
****...that 81 UM team would give 83 all they could handle...
What is not true? Howard coached the 81 team, why is that part of the groundwork. As I recall the team loss 2 games
that year and did not receive a bowl bid. That is not to say it was not a good team, but 83 still has history on it's side.

81 didn't recieve a Bowl bid because of Probation, stemming from under Saban...
81 team lost 2 on Absolute BS calls and non calls....

91 team is the most under appreciated team ever. That team was losing to NOBODY! And you are 100% correct about the coaching staff. Every unit seemed so well prepared every game. Watching Barrow orchestrate that defense was a thing of beauty.

Did not remember the probation. I think they went to the Peach Bowl in 80, figures, a delayed sentencing just as we were gathering stream.

I believe, wholeheartedly, that you will never see back to back defenses like our 91 and 92 teams ever again. The 92 team played for the title because of the defense.

Because of Sonny Lubick...best DC UM has ever had...Period...

The Big difference between 91 and 92 was the offensive line and that is from someone that played an important role in those offenses. The Posse was still there, Gino was still the QB, McGuire was dinged but Donnell and Larry were fine. However graduation, especially Leon, along with some injuries during the season on the OL was a recipe for disaster. By years end we had a TE playing LT. The 91 squad was solid, no weaknesses and the staff was superb. Dennis takes a beating here but he could coach and was responsible for bringing Sonny to town because of his friendship with Jack Elway.

Hired by Coach E bypassing Tubberville who was One of the leftovers when Jimmy took most assistants to Dallas. Jack Elway’s recommendation brought Sonny to UM, had little defensive experience to that point. Here’s a good one on Sonny’s defenses: 95% of the defensive calls were Sonny’s famous “Canes 2 play” Canes was the basic. 4-3, 2 was cover 2 and play spoke for itself. Sonny had very few gimmicks, just solid fundamentally sound defenses and guys that were very good at playing assignments. Sonny was great DC and even better person.

Yep. You knew his defenses were going to be solid every game. Hard hitting, great tackling, great effort, minimal mistakes. Loved watching those defenses.
