Haven't really seen it discussed, but much was made in the SEC about the difference Moffit has made for Texas ATM as their S&C after being forced from his beloved LSU.

Ik many UM fans see Moffit as the Holy Grail of SC and begged for his return, but our guy Ervin Young ate his lunch. When it came down to it, our guys were the stronger, better conditioned, faster, and more physical team when it counted the most.

Young has done a tremendous job so far. The future is very bright for him.

Ervin Young is apparently really good. Mario said they were using many of his programs even after he left for Tennessee last year. He does a lot of speed work which probably is why our defense seems to line up with 13 on the field. Tho the dude with the mustache is also deserving of some credit.

OP’s strength coordinator will make dividends next year with his off-season. That is if the original guy left during the season. I can’t remember. But muscle takes months not days to grow. Also way harder to gain in season. Jan-Sept. is when we will judge.

S&C is a small piece to the larger puzzle. Most of them are well paid babysitters because they can be around the players far more than position coaches. They know who parties. They know who works hard.

a little Canes history.
Butch hired Dale Hewitt(rip) from Syracuse the spring/summer of 1995. Ed left soon after. Big Ed and Mike Bradley were hired as assistants. Mike is now at FSU. Dale was fired and replaced by Moffitt in 1998. I believe Andreu was hired as a conditioning assistant and Mike left for Stanford… not sure about Big Ed. When Moffitt was hired by LSU, Butch moved Andreu to head S&C.

Mario won’t let the kids run the program. Whoever he hires will be a hard worker that puts the program ahead of any one kid.

As for what works best: lift, eat, rest, and never ever cause injuries in the weight room. 17-24 yo kids have a ton of hormones running through them so it only takes work to transform them into animals. The NFL guys need help due to age and the grind of longer seasons, bigger humans, and years of playing hurt/injured.

And Swasey was proven to be an absolute joke in S&C world. No background in bio mechanics or kinesiology.

He had sociology major. Lol

Oh the epic battles on Canestimes over Swasey and S&C. Handlebar mustache guy finally got us to stop arguing about this stuff any more. That and the fact our players are genetic mutants, real life X-men.
