Tom Hermon

YES YES AND YES THIS IS THE ONLY OPTION HE WOULD , HIM IN MIAMI WOULD NOT BE FAIR TO OTHERS

My second choice behind Chud.

Do you realize we could have Herman coaching this team RIGHT NOW for half of what we are paying Golden?

Herman has a huge 2.25 mil buyout with Houston if he leaves before 2018. That could be a huge issue with the cheap losers that run our program.

University of Houston football coach Tom Herman's five-year contract could be worth more than its $6.75 million value if he reaches certain performance incentives.

New University of Houston football coach Tom Herman's contract includes a steep buyout if he leaves within the first three years of the deal.

Herman must pay $2.25 million if leaves for another job before Feb. 28, 2018, according to details obtained Thursday by the Houston Chronicle through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The buyout amount decreases to $1 million on Feb. 28, 2019, and to $500,000 on Feb. 29, 2020.

In December, Herman agreed to a five-year contract worth at least $6.75 million, which can increase substantially if he reaches certain performance incentives.

The contract includes a $1.35 million annual salary - the highest for a football coach in school history.

Herman can receive an additional $500,000 in deferred compensation if he completes the contract.

If at any time during the contract UH wins a conference championship, Herman will receive $50,000 increases in base salary (currently $475,000) and non-salary compensation (currently $875,000).

Herman's contract also includes incentives for performance on the field and in the classroom.

Among the incentives:

A one-time increase of $100,000 in non-salary compensation for the remainder of the contract if the Cougars play in a New Year's Six bowl (Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach, Rose or Sugar).

UH will provide a coaching staff budget of $2.645 million for nine full-time assistants, quality control/graduate assistant personnel, and a director of football operations.

Herman is a facking stud!

Goes into Papa John's and beats Louisville as a 14 point dog.

I'm very intrigued to see how a true spread would work down here. I believe it would be lethal.

He is another 3-4 lover who is going to bring a new offense to Miami. So we keeps Al's base defense and get another DNA altering offense. Great stuff if it works but how long do you give him to completely change everything from what DID work here.

Guess is, if Texas fires Strong, he would probably be second on their wishlist after Briles. Could also see them taking a run at Chad Morris. Honestly, Houston is a pretty good gig, so he may just sit around and wait.

50% of NFL teams run 3-4 fronts....it works very well.....just not the way Doritos runs it.

D'Nofrio's defense would work just fine with anyone but Mark D'Nofrio running it..

Briles already turned UT down. I doubt UT hires another relative unknown like Herman or Morris. There will be huge pressure to get the right guy, and they will try to pull a Bama or Michigan and grab a monster.

Hard to absorb this, and pay Golden's buyout.

But if you can get around paying Golden (unlikely), it may be doable.

If you have to pay Golden ... UM would need to get creative with offsetting Herman's salary to cover his buyout. I think that's what Boise State did to cover Bryan Harsin's buyout from Arkansas State ... And I believe UF is doing that with McElwain. But that only works if the guy really wants the job.

I know we all love Miami ... But objectively, we would not have had Randy Shannon and Al Golden as our last 2 head coaches if this job was that highly thought of by those in the college football coaching profession.

I think that is absolutely true. I believe our fans think this job is moire attractive than quality candidates do.

UT asked Briles to submit his resume and other supporting information for the UT job. Briles told them they have his resume (football record, everything on tv, etc.), so he didn't submit anything to them. He didn't want it to appear that he was looking to move to UT, because he wasn't. Now he may have taken it if offered, but UT never offered because he wouldn't submit his resume. Briles is very smart. And a very good coach. I've said this before, he isn't leaving the state of Texas for a job. Not ever. He was out of state recently for a bowl game. It was the longest he'd spent outside of Texas since his honeymoon.

Wouldn't mind this guy at all. Has a Jimmy Johnson at Okie State thing happening right now, and I'm sure we're not the only one noticing. Gluten will be gone after this year (either **** canned or some other sucker like Rutgers or Pedo State 'stealing' him), so we'd be smart to reach out to him now while we can still afford him.

Agree.

The only thing we can really offer Herman is that we are already in a Power 5 conference.

he isn't leaving the state of Texas for a job.

I know the quoted comment was specific to Briles ... But it may also apply to Herman and Chad Morris, as well.

Texas and Texas Tech may both have openings in the next 2-3 years ...

If this guy wins his conference in year 1 and hits 10 wins (pre-bowl), his buyout will be irrelevant as many teams will gladly pay it to have him coach. In fact, he will probably have an offer 2-3 times his current yearly base salary, even if he had to pay it. Since this guy is from Ohio and went to Cal Lutheran, I wouldn't believe it would be difficult to pry him from the state of Texas.
