Tom Herman Houston Coach

My concern is how long does this guy stick around

Why is that a concern?

EVERY coach who had success at Miami left to go to the pros.

This is what happens, good coaches who have success, get big time offers. It is okay, there is more then one coach available. Let's be concerned with making the best hire today. Worry about the unknown at a later date.

Sounds good and you're some what right. But if I'd have to pick with Butch Davis building us back up and staying long term or Herman getting back on track and jumping ship for a "better" job after two seasons I'm going with Butch.

Herman will most likely have his pick of the litter.

I know Golden, Shannon, and the end of Coker left us all with an inferiority complex ... But, ****, Bro!

If this job can't present itself as the "pick of the litter", then we need to stop expecting excellence from the coaches.

If we're a mid-major, then we need to be ok with the goal of winning the Coastal.

Fans can't have it both ways ...

In Fuente and Herman, there are 2 awesome candidates available. We need to get 1 of them ...

Fuente is riding an NFL qb and a terrible defense.

Not the same guy as Herman.

You lost me, can you translate this?

I just hold Herman in a much higher esteem. I think he'll have his pick between Usc, Usce and Miami.

Or wait another year for UGA or another job of his choosing.

Fuente is hot right now and I think would be more likely to pounce on a bigger job before Lynch leaves for the NFL.

The more I read about Tom Herman the more I am intrigued by the possibility of his hire at UM, especially seeing that he is respected as a recruiter. The tipping point could very well be Brad Kaaya, who Herman has not had a qb of his caliber. No doubt Kaaya would put up crazy numbers under Herman. I still want Butch, but Herman is definitely gaining momentum.

What? He had Braxton Miller, cardale jones, Jt Barrett

Good athletes, but not on the level of Brad Kaaya. They have the benefit of being in Urban Meyer's system. I'll take Kaaya any day over those three. Kaaya has a legit shot of playing on Sundays and being a star in the league. Out of the three you mentioned, only one has a real shot of being drafted and possibly being a starting qb.

True enough

Butch Davis is 63, he turns 64 next month. Perhaps father time, will prevent a long term tenure. College football requires a chit ton of energy.
Not many big time coaches coaching college football at a high level past 65-66. Saban turns 64 later this month.

I am just saying that it is okay to get a coach that will only be here for 2-3 years.

That is fine and that is your right (Herman > Fuente). Herman is a beast, doing great so far.

As for Fuente, he has had success with QBs before (see Andy Dalton). In addition, Lynch was a nobody before he was offered by Fuente. Lynch threw less than 1100 yards, 51% completions and 10 TD : 10 INTs in his whole HS career. Nobody wanted him. He worked with Fuente and.....we know where he is today.
This is Fuente's second time developing a QB.

Perhaps him and Kaaya would be interesting.

If the coach is an even hotter candidate after 3 years at Miami that means we whooped ***. Im good with that. Maybe us not sucking would bring another good coach after.

Right now out last 4 coaches, their best job is UTSA coach... ill take being good and leaving over 5 years of the same ****** coach.

It will be interesting to see if folks are overrating Paxton Lynch ...

Maybe he looks like an NFL QB because Justin Fuente is his coach?

Christian Ponder and EJ Manuel looked pretty good, too ... So did Gino Smith and Landry Jones.

But those guys are/were creations of the college coach and system.

Fuente got Andy Dalton ready for the NFL ... This isn't his first "NFL QB".

At some point; does the QB make the coach, or does the coach make the QB?

I guess Fuente must be the luckiest coach around ... Inherited Andy Dalton, found Paxton Lynch, and he might inherit Brad Kaaya and Jack Allison.

I'm not sure why that's an issue, though?

As for the defense ... Can we wait for him to announce the staff before making any assumptions. McElwain didn't bring his full Colorado State staff to Florida, and I doubt Fuente will follow the Al Golden model, and bring most of his staff. He knows his defense is a liability ... He also knows he had a legit D last season, which is why that guy is now running the Mizzou D.

and braxton is now a receiver, cardale got benched, and barrett isn't convincing. they have the same team as last year and their quarterbacks have significantly regressed since his departure.

I don't see Herman happening for alot of reasons. As others have mentioned, he is from the West Coast and would certainly choose USC over us if given the choice. Secondly, if he was really complaining about attendance, then Miami is probably not very attractive in his eyes.

But besides all of that, Herman is still unproven.... Beating UL is not really a signature win. Do I think he's a home run? There isn't a large enough sample size of his work to determine that imo and I don't think our BOT wants to roll the dice when there are proven guys like Fuente out there. We cannot ***** this hire up.

I'm not pontificating or even claiming to know more then then the next guy.

Fuente would be a good hire and he's certainly on everyone's hot list.

But his D gave up 350 yds/game last year(not bad) and 460/game this year and has the third worse pass D through 7 games. I don't know if this troubles me because I want to over correct, or makes me question his capacity to hire coordinators.

I know this is another meaningless tidbit, but from the articles I read it seems Herman is more respected.

It's not any one thing, just looking at everything with context, which there isn't as much for Herman to be fair.

I'll take either one honestly, but doubt UM would have the wherewithal to do it.
