If we're gonna look at mid major coaches I kinda really like this team. Wins with an absolutely great defense, completely shut down Arkansas power running game when they played. I'm a little wary of a Memphis coach who's winning games 53-46 on the back of a stud qb.

Also the stud athlete Desmond Phillips that we just offered from Miami Jackson is committed there so obviously the guy has a little eye for talent

If Golden is canned who knows who the bot and Blake goes with. As long as it's not Cristobal I'm 4 it

I have been holding back on suggesting Matt Campbell because I am a biased Toledo student. But he really is a good coach and a great guy. This year's offensive line had only 3 combined starts prior to this year and has been a force. Didn't allow a sack through the first 4 or 5 games I believe. Also scoring lots of points with their best player (Kareem Hunt) lacking effectiveness due to injury/suspension. The team has a decent amount of FL guys on it. My biggest concern would be that he might not be able to recruit SF that well. He is a product of Mt. Union and Bowling Green, and does not have any real connection to SF. But like I said, he has done a decent job of getting Fl kids to come up to cold-*** Toledo. Campbell was also offered the to be one of Urban's top offensive assistants when Urban first got to Ohio State, but Campbell decided to stay at Toledo after winning a bowl game as the interim head coach. I personally would like to see Butch, Herman, Strong, Kelly, Pagano, Chudzinski, or another big time coach with SF ties, but I realize that most of those names are unrealistic. I'm indifferent on Fuentes at this point. Not sure how I feel about him as a candidate. But as far as Campbell goes, I think he will be the head coach of a Big 10 or Big 12 school before he ends up coming down to Miami. I think it just fits his lifestyle better. That being said, I think he is an outstanding coach and it is a lot of fun to watch this Rocket team.

Having a connection in South Florida is overrated. Jimbo did not a connection and Tim Brewster there best South Florida recruiter had no connections either prior to joining FSU.

Winning games in Miami, Beat FSU, Win a fugging bowl game....Miami will recruit itself.

Did any of our championship coaches have a connection before they got here? Or what about Saban, Urban, and Miles taking our players? You are so right. It's overrated. If we win the players will come.

This. Coley and Randy have/had strong S. Fla. ties. Result: crap. JJ and Erickson didn't. Result: 3 national championships. The program sells itself. Even that doofus from Temple has pulled in some talent (before turning them into meek, slow, and soft specimens). The Canes need an x's and o's guy first. The talent will take care of itself.

I was looking into him last week but didn't bother posting seeing everyone of the Fuentes train. Now that the love affair has cooled - glad to see this brought up. I'd be down with this pick. Besides, anything is better than this dumpster fire. Sort of feeling like we've nothing to lose.

By no means do I think SF ties are the major factor. I do think they are nice to have though. I say that is my biggest concern because I have a lot of faith in Campbell in all other aspects. The reason I think Matt Campbell will end up in the B10 or Big 12 is because I think he likes it up North, and is a lifelong Ohio guy. I would fully support it though if Miami hired him.
