Todd Hartley to be special teams coach

ERicht is shook.

Don't slit your wrists until all staff announcements are official.

He has a pool of money. He's the OC, save the money for the D side. He may need 7 figures for the DC. Rumor has him looking at a few NFL guys.

Its becoming obvious that John Jancek and Willie Martinez will be CO-DC's.

Look out for Tommy Thigpen as well.

With Hartley coming, I think signs point to Martinez being hired. Harley was a defensive grad assistant under Martinez.

Richt has a 5 mil budget in my opinion.

If Hartley's made the DB coach and/or Martinez is brought in to fill a prominent role on the defensive staff, it'll be an enormous and immediate red flag.

agree, but I can't see Hartley just being a special teams coach. Wouldn't mind Martinez as a db coach but not as a dc

You're probably right, but I want nothing to do with Hartley having a prominent role on the defensive staff. I don't care about his prior experience at a program like Marshall. Miami should be above elevating someone from grad assistant to possible DB coach after fielding the most disastrous defenses in the history of the program.

Three men who were head coaches last year have been hired on D.J. Durkin's staff at Maryland. We should be able to do far better than making a UGA grad assistant who has never been a position coach at a Power 5 program (aside from being an interim fill-in for one bowl game) our new DB coach.

Maybe Richt should have called Frank Beamer. Beamer loves special teams and might be bored in retirement.

He has to be coaching a position too, right? Or is Richt going to have Co-OCs that split WR/RB duties while he handles the QBs?

he has the look of an elite bag man. hope i'm right.

Looks like a Russian computer hacker.

he fired jancek and Martinez from his Georgia staff, you think he'd hire them back??
This^^^^^....
And I also read that Martinez was suspended for a game this year for what I believe was making an impermissible contact with a recruit during the spring. I can't imagine that having a recruiting violation strike against him helps.

I like as special teams coach. Not sure I want him coaching dbs but wouldn't hate it. It all hinges on DC imo.

Just a guess but I think he might coach somewhere on the offensive side. I only say this because it looks like Richt is filling out that side of the ball with staff members first. Haven't heard any defensive hires yet (prolly waiting on DC).

This is from his days as Marshall's TE Coach good lord, I can't see this guy getting respect from south florida coaches (way to much awh shucks) but hopefully if he does come to miami he can figure it out an make an impact.

I thought the "boards" were saying he would be hired at UM in a similar capacity that he was at UGA - kind of a recruiting/ops/assistant kind of guy only he'd help out on defense. Not sure.

But yeah, guys on the UGA board refer to him as a grinder.
