I did not think they would pay a HC $4MM/yr. This shows a commitment to win and I'll be back to buying my season tix after boycotting 2015. As fans of the program, it's our time now to show the support and get out to the games next season. Let's move past the pain and move forward towards a new chapter in Canes Football!

I think they're committed to paying assistants. You're not going to go after a guy like richt and cheap out on assistants.

I heard a package of $3MM toward assistants last night...either way, I don't see Richt coming if he doesn't have the money to pay who he wants.

Before you start tipping the hat, let's see the Assistants.

Although it is nice to see a financial commitment, it wasn't the money that kept us back. It was incompetence, apathy and waste.

A lot of posters need to man up and admit Blake James actually did a good job. There were plenty of threads bashing him but I don't see many giving him the praise he deserves for pulling this off.

I agree with you, but a number of other folks deserve credit, like Stuart Miller. Plus the Clemson game lit a fire.

They paid a lot of money to avoid winning and have us not notice it. They remain committed to never being Miami again. Mark is a nice coach. Better coach than Golden. Will win more than Golden. Will be liked more than Golden. He is in short, a pricier model of Al Golden. The pressure to hire Butch got Mark a nice payday. They clearly did not want Butch because he would have brought back things Miami. They do not want that. The Donna disease is terminal. Mark is big enough name for people to accept in lieu of Butch. Even I figure it could have been worse. But do not deceive yourself. They hired a man who just got canned by a school that is far our inferior in football. Had Mark not been back up QB here, would he even been considered? Note please, Mark played here BEFORE the age of dominance and never coached here. He has nothing to do with THE U we all love and Foote and Donna hated. He was THERE perfect hire. Let's hope he screws them up and brings us back anyway -- never know what happens when a Cane puts on those colors and runs through the Smoke.

Shut up. Mark is a great coach. We now have a top college hc who is easily one of the ten best current coaches in college currently and arguably top 5

Deprogramming, friend. Check into it.

Your cult days have you thinking Butch is some genius football coach when, in reality, he can't hold Richt's jock strap.

Blake had about as much to do with this as you did.

Just about every other school with an open HC position inquired and wanted to interview Mark Richt. Mark Richt is not anywhere near Al Golden. Please stop.

Agreed. Remember Blake James did not hire Al Golden in first place. At least he fired him.

This. When you add in the higher buyout to get rid of Golden, the school has definitely sent the message that they're willing to invest in the program for the first time in a very long time, maybe ever. I think they realized that they were leaving $ on the table and given the void of sports success in the 305 lately, the community could be lured back to Canes games with a real product on the field.

x2. I would also bet they up the ante on facilities too, though they have made some improvements already in the regard. Richt was supposedly a little unhappy with UGA for cheaping out on facilities. I'm sure he discussed these things before being hired.

I conceded that already. He is 1000000 times the coach Golden will ever be. But not, to date anyway, the coach to take us back to what we were. He is certainly the boy you bring home to dinner -- just not the dude you walk into a dark alley with. Get what I mean? They do not want us to be THE U. Hey, Mark is a Cane and I am hoping he hits Greentree like a storm and lets the dogs loose. But that is not why they pick him. He too has been hired to keep the dogs chained with a little more winning than that worthless Golden. Mark is family. I watch him play and work with people who know him and his family. We are better off with him, no doubt. Just not likely to get us what most of us want. I do expect him to win the coastal every year and beat noles. So yes he is much better than Al.

We are probably done winning NC now. Mark will get us a couple ACC titles but I doubt we make the playoffs unless they expand them. That is exactly what the school wants. Win but not too much. But you are right, he is not Al -- I doubt Mark will ever throw players under the bus. Unless we start asking for his son to be fired as QB coach -- that might make a difference.

you are often right but you are definitely wrong here. You need to deprogram yourself on this side as you say to others on Butch.

I'll give credit for James for actually getting it done, despite the fact that a top tier coaching fell into his lap unintentionally. Give him credit, though, as soon as Richt became available, he pounced on it.

It's looking like if Richt had not been available, there's a good chance Schiano would be our coach. We were a hair from Schiano being our caoch. Would your perception of James remained the same?
