Lake has been at which practices, exactly? The 7 in shells? Whoopty-*******-doo.

And if we are indicting Emory and Judd, it will be based on two prior years of experience and play (Emory) or one prior year of experience and play (Judd). Not just ONE practice in pads.

Nobody has said "Nickel is clearly behind both of them". But that's where true freshmen start out. When he's had, say, more than ONE practice in pads to move ahead of Emory and Judd, then he can do so. But not based on "hype" or "star ratings". I'd prefer for Nickel to beat out Emory and Judd based on performance.

ONE PRACTICE in pads. Oh, but we should take what David Lake says as Gospel.

And I'm not sure why YOU have deemed him to be a "non-elite high school quarterback". Nickel was named Mr. Georgia Football. And as for the nonsense about him being a 3-star, he is a:

4-star on on3 (#100 overall, #11 QB)
4-star on 247 (#247 overall, #16 QB)
4-star on ESPN (#299 overall, #17 QB)
4-star on Rivals (#16 QB)
Consensus/composite 4-star (#230 overall, #19 QB)

I said it in previous post, Luke Nickel strikes me as a very good game manager with above avg arm strength. He’s not the type QB you give the ball to and say go win it for me kid. I watched him several time and there’s nothing I’ve seen that jumps out to me about him. I’ll say it again, Dereon Coleman is a much better QB than Nickel, Coleman is better than all of our backup QBs!!!

Sure, it is still super early in his first Spring Camp and sure, he is super young and there is plenty of time for him to improve. But most of this fanbase was ready to call him the definite backup and QB of the future before he even stepped foot on campus. Now that he has been on campus, reading between the lines, there has been a lot of "well let's see him with better receivers" and "I think he still needs to adjust to the speed" and "its still early".

Through The Smoke went as far as to say that they don't think Miami's future starter is on the roster currently.

Of course I want to see him succeed and become an All-American and call me a hater if you want, but while we are all sitting here pumping Dereon Coleman's tires, I think it is worth trying to have a little perspective about our expectations. We all moaned about how Nickel deserved a fourth star and it sure sounds like after seeing him in practice that he was probably ranked correctly.

Coleman is a completely different player so perhaps I am comparing apples to oranges, but for me, this only cements that we should be on the Portal QB train every season so long as the good options are available.
