I think Briggs and Mueller will have their moments in the passing game throughout the year, but both will struggle with their blocking. Hopefully, Vitti can get them or one of them up to speed and be at least average blockers by the time we get to Clemson and then ND.

Entirely projection. His frame is built the right way IMO. And yes, I expect Viti will get the most out of both.

And size doesn't mean **** if they're not good TEs. If finding a 6'4 250 lb was all it took, a coach's job would be real simple.
 
I strongly believe the concern about the TE room is greatly overstated. Outside of my belief in guys like Carver, I think we’re in a really good spot relative to the majority of years past.

Look no further than the lack of impact we had from our TE who had more snaps than any other last season. Average to below average blocker, minimal impact in the pass game, and had arguably the biggest breakdown in a game that mattered since Vinny’s pick fest in the Fiesta Bowl 40 years ago.

I think most will be pleasantly surprised.
 
Ruskavich, Nickel, Carver better be decent blockers. Best 2/3 should earn their specific role while Lofton and the freshmen hold down the receiving portion. Will be curious to see how Dawson uses them more than anything, wanna see some creativity.

Since Dawson has been here, the TE’s have been mostly a 6th OLinemen. Scheme? Pass catching talent? A combo of these and other things?

Dawson has never used the TE much as far as the passing game. Arroyo had the best season ever by a TE in dawson offense. Only 1 other TE has ever cracked 300 yards in his system. So the lack of production from the position since he has been here isn’t surprising

I’ve never understood the obsession by some with getting the TE more involved in our passing game. If the WR’s are making plays, I don’t see the need to use them much other than certain instances to fool the defense.

The obsession is that a good TE is a mismatch against slot defenders and forces the defense to adjust their entire scheme. Yoi can do that with a second back or a fourth receiver as well. But good TEs are typically built differently and can bully defenders in a way the others can’t.

I mean a good TE can be a huge weapon inside the numbers. Most LBs can’t cover and a S is too small. But I think a lot of it has to do with the history here at TE. Most people consider it to be TEU and so when the position isn’t productive fans start criticizing it because of that history
 
Owen Ruskevich looks to be the most trusted blocking TE.

Kid made at least two great blocks in the redzone that resulted in tuddies.
