IMO, the DL play and DL coaching philosophy is one of the main areas holding this team back. We need to get back to the days of disrupting plays in the back field. Far too often we're playing in unfavorable down and distance situations. Offenses convert first downs, bleed the clock and tire out our defense. A few of these types of drives and our defense is KO'd for the game. In other words, death by a thousand cuts.

I rewatched the UVA and for whatever reason we reverted back to our passive style of defensive play calling -- we rushed 3 lineman and dropped 8 in a zone on first down way too many times.

Our DL stances seem to dictate when we are playing the run vs. the pass. Rarely do our DL beat their man. No pass rush moves. Often times they get caught by the OL when stunting. It's like we're satisfied with allowing 3 yard runs.

Jethro needs to go, but more importantly, this defensive philosophy needs to go or we're going to see more of the same next year.

It's Al Golden's defensive philosophy. He decided to go back to it after 10 quarters of the best football this team has played since he arrived (@ VT, vs. UNC, first half vs. FSU) because he's incompetent, coaches scared, and stubbornly/condescendingly believes he knows what will work better than everyone else despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The only way Golden's defensive philosophy will go away is if he's shown the door.

Their philosophy is we know what we're coaching would work if the players would just grasp the concept and changes aren't necessary. Nothing positive you can say about Al and Dorito!

Firing Jethro and hiring a good DL coach will make a lot of our problems go away

That is the play patty cake with the Oline and keep LBs 5 yards off the ball.

in order to tackle someone for a loss, you would have to actually be in their backfield. The DL ****y-fighting at the line isn't going to get it done. I miss coach Palermo and the job he did with that DL for us.

Our DLine coaching is bad. Don't know if I'm the only one that notices but I don't see our guys trying to use any sort of rip moves, spin moves etc.

If DL penetrates that would leave a hole in the run fits...scheme is lacking

Can't generate a pass rush because that's never practiced...philosophy sucks

Opposing QBs are allowed all day to execute...scheme is lacking

They trade disruptive defense for hoping that during the opposing teams march down the field they'll make a mistake or the "D" will force a turnover...scheme sucks

Don't disrupt the competition, or out-athlete them...out-think them to a 6-6 season year after year...philosophy and scheme are ridiculous for Miami

But we do lead the nation in defensive players starting a play more than 8 yards from the line of scrimmage.

It really is the system. Warren Sapp would not be Warren Sapp in this system. Think about that for a second.

Palermo is a great coach!
