....are one of these chicken littles who keeps saying "we can't get this guy, we can't get that guy, we aren't good, wah wah wah".

I've posted this a ton before, but this school used to not only hire people away from other P5 programs and the NFL, but we used to spend good money doing it.

But then we got lazy. We got irresponsible with extensions and huge buyouts. We forgot what kind of coaches built the school, and we went out and hired "recruiters" like Al and and "good fits" like Randy.

Every major program has gone through this. As a fan, if you born after 1969, you have never experienced a title drought as long as this one as a Cane fan. Put that into perspective. This is a new experience for a majority of the fan base. So I don't blame you if you feel like this is some unprecedented thing that means we will never be able to hire an elite coach.

We will. Maybe not this time. But a some point we will. B/C schools with 5 national titles, a billion NFL players, and a wealthy alumni base don't accept mediocrity. So grow a pair and stop being pussyboy negative Nancies. It's pathetic. Demand excellence and you will get it.

Do u think we could get Charlie strong ?

Who cares, Strong is the kind of coach that Miami should never ever hire. He's a joke. The same mentality that draws folks to Strong is what drove them to liking Randy and Al. Have we learning nothing?

Or if your justification for a hire is "he's better than Strong and Cristobal". Larry behind the counter at the Publix deli is better than Strong or Cristobal.

It's a better job than the media wants to admit that starts with Paul Finebaum. More coaches than you'd expect still want this job.

We could hire Strong - he could polish our trophies, and make sure the ****ters have good supplies of soap and toilet paper.

We've got a deadly mix of dopey, loser Miami fans who think it's "delusional" to expect us to hire someone other than an OL coach or Texas' garbage; and Hecht henchmen who continue to lower expectations and embody everything that is wrong with this program.

Excellent post.

The only reason Miami "couldn't get this guy, couldn't get that guy" in the past was an unwillingness to spend the money. If The U is willing to spend the money for a 'Top 10 HC salary and staff', as reported, there isn't a financial reason not get who they target.

My worry is who they target.

I would say there are coaches who don't want to play in half empty stadiums. It has nothing to do with us not being able to go get a guy but some coaches place high value on things like that. I know people will say fans will show up for a winner but that only proves true for big games. Some coaches like the big school SEC type of fan base.
However, there are a lot of coaches that we can get for talent base alone.

How many coaches did we hire that were already HC at a major (winning) program?

Howard was not a HC when we got him.
JJ was at a bad OK ST team (not a major/winning program at that time - you can say major if you want, but they weren't winning anything)
Dennis Erickson was coming form Washington St (not a major/winning program) and was coming to a loaded team.
Butch was a coordinator for Dallas and then on staff for us before that
Coker was a coordinator for us
Shannon was a coordinator for us
Golden is only the 2nd HC we have taken from another school in that period and it wasn't even a major school, and Golden is by far the worst of the list.

So please continue to tell me about all the guys we are stealing from other successful P5 programs and the NFL. In reality Howard is the only one and he wasn't a HC.

You are trying to compare that list to

Gundy - turned Ok St into a national power
Chip - National Power at Oregon and CURRENT HC in the NFL
Patterson - Turned TCU into a national power and already has a fertile recruiting ground in Texas
Miles - maybe realistic if he actually gets fired, but we did not pull him in that case.
Dantonio - Built Mich St into a National Power, an actual contender

All of these guys are at schools that are actually successful right now. None of them are coordinators. All you need now is Saban, Urban, and Harbaugh and your list will be full blown unrealistic. This is not to say they would never be interested in Miami, and it would great if they reached out to these guys to make offers, but none of them are leaving their current situations to come here. At best, they would likely use us as leverage to get a raise.

Expectations are great, but keep them realistic.

Howard had been an NFL Head coach, and was one of the most respected Coordinators in the NFL. If you don't know that, then go read a book about our program.

When a post is upvoted 23 times, and you are one of the 3 down voters, AND don't even know the history of the program you supposedly follow, chances are you have no clue what you are talking about.

You got down voted for posting BS. Howard was a HC at one point (and was fired). This is true. The problem is he was not a HC when we got him. We did not "pull him". The man saw an opportunity to do something big and he took it. Even if you want to use Howard since he was respected, who else did we "pull" from a major player that was their HC. You posted a bunch of BS and want people to take it as fact.

The only thing you said that was truthful is we should not accept mediocrity and we should demand excellence. I completely agree, but don't make stuff up to make your point. I would be 100% on board with our admin reaching out to all of the big names, but don't get your hopes up over something that's not realistic, unless their is a brush fire sitting in front of the door screaming it might happen. We have had no indication of any of these big names looking into this job at this time except for a couple rumors here and there about Chip Kelly. Did you forget the Gruden situation? ****, I don't even blame people for getting excited about that, because the rumor mill was running that thing hot, but you're sitting here calling people out, because we're not jumping up and down over guys who have not even indicated interest in this program and are at nationally relevant programs already. If I start hearing lots of rumors about Gundy or Chip, I will get excited and hope the admin pushes hard, but currently, it's not realistic. If the admin offers these guys and they say no, what do you want them to do? They can't force a great coach to come to Miami.

I don't think you are able to understand. Maybe the 26 people who upvoted can explain it to u? Usually, when the most respected posters on the board all agree with a point, I have to consider evaluating why. Now is your chance.
