Thoughts?

no college is not pros for a reason.

only rule change that is needed is the targeting bull ****. there needs to be a crew that is independent of conference that their sole purpose is to say yes targeting or no. I'm tired of seeing some kids nearly decapitated (the pitt DB that speared the BC kid) and no call is made, but other schools the sweat on the helmets touched so it's targeting so they miss 2 games.

Yes, should also change the catch rule to two feet in bounds IMO

Yeah I'd rather see the two feet down adopted before being touched going down.

Honestly I don't mind it and almost lean on rather having the NFL adopt the going down untouched rule from college.

Do not change the rules. I like that it’s different from the NFL. Especially the PI rule. Pro football is just a bunch of dudes throwing it up for grabs hoping for a PI penalty. A referee call should not impact the game to the extent of 40 or 50 yards on a single play.

The first place my mind went when I read this was “poor Plaxico”

I feel like you're in the minority with the untouched rule. I'm curious, why do you like that way better?

I feel like as much as it's the defender's job to get the guy down, it's equally the job of the offensive player to stay up.

I also prefer the defensive holding rule for college since it doesn't always turn into a first down. Though I'd like to see that mashed up with the NFL and change it from 10 to 5 yards. Still, it's better than the NFL version.

Understandable. That’s one that I feel like could be tweaked. If the hold occurs past the first down line I feel like it should be an automatic first down, if not make it 5 or 10 yards. However that would be hard to police

College only . no way id let pop Warner kids try and make that decision. you would have kids getting all kinds of fcked up from kids pouncing on another kid because they didn't think he was touched. You would see separated shoulders, neck injuries and even lower extremities becoming way to common. I would trust college players to make those types of decisions but not anything lower level then college.
That's true, I can see that happening too with the pop Warner kids. Definitely college though.

What do you think on the PI rule mirroring the NFL?

If they have a guy who's in the box making a quick decision then id be ok with it. Thought the XFL did pretty good with that guy who looks at all the plays. If its a terrible call fix it. If its super close and 50/50 go with the call on the field. Cant get them all 100%, but it be nice to fix the really horrible missed calls.

Should be changed all the way from Pop Warner up to college. Shouldn't be declared down until you're touched.

Biggest rule change I'd like to see is the bogus 15 yard pass interference call.....that one should DEFINITELY be mirrored after the NFL where if you commit a PI that prevents a 50 yard catch, the ball is placed at the spot of the foul and gives the offense the 50 yards. The defense should never be rewarded for subpar play, which IMO is what it does when you take away a 60 yard pass and only give 15 yards. Rules like that were created to bridge the gap between your burners and the kids that are not quite as fast.

agree in concept but the pi calls are ticky tack today and so inconsistently applied I see the counter arguments.

College Football needs to worry about the bogus Targeting rules first before they change anything else..
100%. Seems like such an easy and obvious solution as well. Continue calling targeting exactly as it is now, which doesn't require intent. That's needed, even though I personally hate it, because without changes like that our beloved sport was going dodo bird. But then only eject where there IS intent or it's really flagrant. Let the others just be a 15 yard penalty like a unnecessary roughness. The fact any targeting MUST be an ejection is what is so broken right now. Make it similar to the NBA with a flagrant 1 and flagrant 2.

I think college should adopt most/all NFL rules. You should have to be touched to be down. 2 feet required for a catch. And there are more.
