Thoughts on what happens when colleges disappear in next 5 years?

May not be 5 years but colleges will never be the same , talk to people more and more they just can’t go to college out of reach.

Wouldn’t be surprised at all , colleges have become politicized and getting worse .
Like Vegas hotels all closing for many reasons just an example of something that would never happen and is unfolding with huge layoffs in all supporting companies of these monstrous resorts.

Colleges are outrageously expensive among other reasons.

Trade schools, specialized schools and online colleges do much reasonably affordable.

It’s obviously slowly showing its face , colleges will evolve to look totally different since they have slowly made education out of reach of middle class.

OP is on point 🎯 , CFB will be corporate sponsored , TV contracts to feed the NFL CFB sees everyone sees this forming already .

Hospitals and corporations Lawyers will be trained without college by specialized schools sponsored by law firms.
 
We are less and less of what we were, and more and more of what we are becoming.

Get a professional degree or go to trade school.

Every other degree is a complete waste of time, money, and energy.
 
To most of the people in this country, college is way out of reach and trade schools are an excellent option.

You dive right into what you signed up for instead of wasting a couple years taking classes in English, history and what ever was in high school.

You get a pile of loans to go to college then your strapped forever in payments.

Another option is night school in learning a trades.

After HS my teammate went to NASCAR tech. Cost him about $30K but he made $50 after 18 months of school (he makes 6figures now). I have my masters and my starting pay was $38.5... I in fact don't make 6fig.

I can’t remember who, but someone on this forum got borderline mad at me for using that term to refer to my better half. 😂
 
Trade schools shade off 2-3 years of college and to dive right in immediately , as you approach finishing you get certified or licensed and get to working.

Technical fields are desperate for qualified people, electrical, plumbing and HVAC .

You can seriously make $50-60K in first years and it escalates tremendously.

Question:

Ask anybody if AC and plumbing is important then they’ll ask you do you know anyone .

These techs are constantly in neighborhoods at stop lights always in need constantly never enough of them .

Some can’t take any more customers and just handle good paying customers 24-7 .
 
Things will change a lot and very quickly. Glad I'n nearing the end of my career.

Not breaking any news here but schools "in the middle" are the ones that will disappear, but most others will still shrink. The large state institutions will always exist, as will the rich privates. Everyone else is in trouble.

Miami has to worry a little, since it's private and not quite elite. It's too expensive for what you get, and the glow of being associated with the city will fade. UHealth is its saving grace.

At least schools are wising up to the fact that administrative bloat is out of control. But there will also be cuts in full-time faculty. I'll give online instruction two more years before we see fully AI administered courses. Going to college will return to the position of being a luxury good for rich families to let their kids find themselves and make connections with other rich kids - like it was pre-1950s.

And some obtain a business degree and apply it to those trades to create jobs, serve the community better and make more money.
