Thoughts on Manny Diaz

exactly, he needs to be making a cool mill, he may be already, but point being he needs to be one of the highest paid DC"s in the country and i think he will be happy enough to stay. You guys talking NC this year, aint happening, we need a QB and a badazz RB to make a complete team, Rosier is the weak link of this offense, MR has to coach around his short comings. Hopefully this Perry is THE ONE, been a long time since we had a really good QB. We have some future NFL receivers now, just need someone to get em the ball without having to make a circus catch, we dont even run under center anymore and i know MR wants to, just think if we had KD, Bern, Walsh, etc under center right now, unstopable. We are not quite there, but we're much closer than anybody thought we would be, and Mark has done a wonderful job calling plays considering half, no most of the time Rosier cant hit a barn with the ball. I just wonder about next year, if Perry is clearly better, gonna be a tough call for MR

Wrong. O-line is the weak link. And Malik will be the starting quarterback next year, no brainer. And our running backs are bad a$$.
 
I seen a UCLA fan say that's who they want as their HC. I was like ****. I feel like of all the coaches on staff, Diaz is the one that embodies Miami mentality and transfers it to the team. More than Richt even. The aggression and tenacity.

I agree we have a nice stable of backs, but Malik is average at best, he could not beat out BK and he was bad. I still say put a good pro style QB under center this offense is lethal, like the UVA guy, waaay better than Malik, he will play sundays, Malik will not
 
Manny not going anywhere for a few years. This job has finally giving him some credibility after several failures at other places. Lucky Richt took a chance on giving him exposure at a sleeping giant.

Also made him a hero in his hometown, I am sure he wants to revel in that a bit longer. All his guys are young, he will build a monster here

I know the idea of a coach staying forever is comforting to most but I really prefer new HC every 5 years or so. Look at most long term coaches results where it matter. St Bobby coached at FSU for like 50 years with TWO NCs, Dennis got that many in 5 or 6. Joe Pa was at psu for 100 years and also won 2, I think. Is that what we want? For every Saban that are a 100000 Bobby's.

Given our fan base, do you really think a coach could survive here 20 or even 10 years if they only won 1 or maybe 2 NCs. Nope, this is Miami, and much like our beaches, we need fresh meat every few years. If you want Diaz to replace Mark, he needs to take a different HC job and come back with experience. Mark should be good for 4 more after this year and then we'll see. I like Manny if he gets that HC experience but if not that dude at UVA looked really good the other day.

Yeah, I'm sure had Howard or Jimmy never left, they'd have only won 2 titles in 30+ years, right? Miami is a different animal than FSU or Penn State. I'll take my chances with a great coach for 20+ years over what we've seen the last 15. For every good hire, we have had some program killers. Give me a great coach and stability at UM and you'll see us competing for titles more often than not.
 
Watching the coaches, linebackers and corners communicate with each other is a thing of beauty.. We came a long, long way from that ****** Dorito... It's like night and day. We actually have plays on defense now.

I hope he doesn't leave but a team is going to throw a ton of cash at Diaz... Richt said it today on the Mark Richt show that this was the best coaching staff chemistry that he's ever been around..

You could be right but JJ won one out of five years, four of which he had teams that could easily be best ever. I agree Miami is different, but part of that difference is refusal to live with anything but NCs. If JJ went another 4 without a second title, that means 1in 9 years. Coker did better. Would JJ survive?

I seriously doubt he would have continued struggling to win titles with the talent he was putting together. He was robbed in 1988, which would have been two titles. Vinny cost him a 3rd title. Pretty sure JJ didn't call for 7 turnovers against PSU. He went on to win Super Bowls, but you question if he could have won more college championships? You do realize he built the teams Erickson won titles with, right? No way in **** he wins one title in 9 years here. And Coker did better? Yeah. Coker inherited the most talented team in history and ran it into the ground, but he did better.

“I don’t want it to change. I want everybody to stay. I think we’ve got a great thing going. I’m hoping everybody wants to stick around,” Richt responded when asked about adding an additional 10th coach to his staff in January when the NCAA allows for it. “If I knew 100 percent that everybody would stay, I would have a better idea of what I might do. Not knowing that, it may totally change the dynamic of what I need to bring in.”


“I’m not trying to cause a firestorm. It’s just coaching. Sometimes coaches move on. Sometimes they stay. When I was at Florida State, that staff stayed together I don’t know how many years,” Richt said. “It might have been 12 years in a row when nobody budged, and we had unprecedented success. I think we have that type of staff here right now.”
