thoughts on lyle and jojo

I guess he didn’t take the top off the Notre Dame defense were the cornerback was forced to tackle him to save a touchdown. Let’s not forget that that pass interference call is part of what won that game for us. I guess you forgot that.
One play in 5 games. He has one catch the last two weeks.

And he's played 87 snaps over the last two weeks.

To @NicKane 's point about Lofton: sure he helps in the short passing game, but he doesn't help our downfield passing game as nearly all of his targets come within 5 yards of LOS. There's also a tradeoff because of his blocking in the run game. Obviously can't only play him only on passing plays. First drive of the 4th, after we had picked up a first down, got fubar'd because of his holding call. Had we scored a TD on that drive we win by 3 scores at a minimum, regardless of what FSU did on offense after that. There's a reason Bauman played nearly twice as many snaps as Lofton did against FSU.

I doubt any other DC is going to play our offense like the UF DC did. Teams are going to continue to stack the box and try to slow down our run game. FSU failed cause they couldn't cover Toney & Daniels, and Beck got the ball out too quick to be affected by their eye candy pressure (except for a couple of plays early in the game).

Beck only having two potential targets down the field worked great last night, not sure it's sustainable. Getting Bauman some targets down the field along with the occasional Lyle wheel can help a bit, but I'd feel a lot better about our offense in a potential playoff game if we develop a 3rd WR.

Will say, if Beck is a Heisman finalist/winner only throwing the ball to one of two WR 95% of the time he targets a WR, no one should ever say a bad word about Shannon Dawson here ever again, and that booster should commission a bronze statue of Dawson too.

Lofton has been good for what he's been asked to do. Like ultimately the guy has an ADOT of like 0 yards for all his catches combined. And he's broken like 6 tackles on the few catches he's gotten. Not much more you can ask from the guy aside from blocking better. Idk why on earth Bauman is outsnapping him.

Think we have been playing more pony sets recently, because Dawson recognizes that Marion isn't much of a threat and the offense is better off with another RB and 1 less WR. Marion played 38 snaps last night and was targeted once, IIRC. Really hard to justify lining up 3 WR when one of the WR never gets targeted.

I love the pony sets and wish we would feature them more, but they limit what Dawson can do scheming WRs open. We really need another WR to step up, IMO. Think it's a small miracle our passing offense has been as good as it has been to this point.
we're going to - maybe not immediately given level of upcoming competition - need another piece to emerge, no question about it.

I would love for that piece to be Jojo, but that's all TBD.

could be Josh Moore. why not one of the freshman TEs Gilbert or Schott?

either way we need to keep adding layers to the offense, namely for the anticipated stretch run.

Yet he still blocks his *** off every game and is a consistent threat to take the top off a defense. If you don’t think the opposing defensive coordinator isn’t having to game plan for that, I don’t know what more I can tell you.

We’ve thrown him ONE deep ball in five games. That’s not a serious threat. The blocking is great, he’s ok as a gadget guy (if he uses his blocks correctly on Sat night he scores on that end around), but that’s nowhere near enough productivity for a third WR whose playing as many snaps as he is.

What I’ll say is this. He is currently our best option at receiver number 3 and I’m **** grateful for that. One deep ball or not, the opposing defense still has to account for it which opens up stuff for other guys.

dare we say.... get Fitz some reps at WR?!?!... dude's INT was so smooth.. he's got the speed and YAC playmaking ability....

It was great seeing Lyle get some carries. And it makes sense that the wr rotation being in the if it ain't broke don't fix it camp as it pertains to the rotation but hopefully after this bye he gets more involved. Marion has had his moments but JoJo has more upside. Just annoying with all the secrecy involved on his situation. Is he truly 100% ? Was he punished by the staff for breaking a rule ? Wtf is it 🤷. But I think you gotta get him in there a lot more at some point.
lyle was ineffective. i think fletcher would have gained an additional two yards on each of lyle's runs. IMO Lyle should not have been in there.

You’re a complete idiot if you think Lyle’s hitting the portal. That man ain’t going nowhere. JoJo, that’s another thing because this is on him. Either your bought in and prepared to do the work expected of you by Mario or you’re not. There’s a reason Lyle got carriesyesterday because he is bought in and putting in the work, can’t say the same about JoJo.

Takes reps to get in rhythm as a rb and they have to come at some point. But at least physically he looked fine with nothing visibly wrong.
After rewatching the game Lyle had his best runs on the drive we were up 28-3. He was decisive. He did a great job cutting back behind CiCi's block once he got #19 leaning outside on the 6-yard run. Looks healthy to me. He shoulda gotten upfield quicker on his first run of the game, but the blocking was horrendous on that play too. Think he has a big game against Louisville.

the principal reason he and fletch and brown had success in the second half (until the final two possessions) is because they stopped loading the box.

Lyle will be fine IMO--Trader has shown nothing in-game.

I'm wondering if they could work Lyle in at HB and in the slot? Seems to me he would to really good with swing passes, screens, and wheel routes.
