- I think we can have 2 identities for 2 styles of games, the early year big physicial version for the ND/UF (talent more equal), and if it ever happened, playoff type games where it becomes more of a possession battle, and then the smaller, faster, more wide open team for the acc games where its more about explosive plays and playing our fastest guys with a faster more spread out tempo and scheme. Toney, pringle, marion, lyle (i think), moore, and eventually schott at TE in a wide open system can be something getting all our speed guys on the field together

- I called Toney wildcat a couple weeks back, its a very conventional solution to when you cant run the ball exceptionally well straight up, and I think it should go a step further with Toney taking full QB reps and run some of those current concepts we have with qb run option and he can still throw.

- we should go to that 20-21 personnel with pringle and lyle next to beck and motion out pringle to create conflict for the sam or will and should open up run, you can also throw off that in the seam and create a triple option

- I want to see Brock schott, not sure the severity of the injury but a speed guy in the middle of the field of 11 and 21 personnel will demolish folks

- Our freshmen are our best skill players, another gap in personnel in year 4, and thats on mario, it has to end at some point, maybe 1 or 2 spots but not wholesale portal needs on either side of the ball every year and create a see saw effect with the complimntary nature of the team

- syracuse's punter is a savage

We haven’t run wildcat(missed second half). Toney has taken two sweeps and thrown out of the play. I don’t recall you calling for wildcat but I’d like to see it, tempo, Baylor wide formations, 10 personnel especially if we get healthy with CJ and Tony, Moore on fades, Pringle on more wheel routes…

they ran 1 or 2 wildcat plays yesterday with him in the 2nd half

He took a direct snap yesterday.

Interesting thoughts on point #1 (regarding the different types of offenses)

I think it is great when a team has the ability to beat other teams in different types of games. (I’m thinking the ideal of this may be Detroit Lions). They can win a running game…grind-it-out defensive battle or they can also win in a pass-fest shoot out.

Real questions (no sarcasm): Are our guys smart enough or disciplined enough to do this? (With different o line snap counts and a big mix of run block and pass block w/o all the false starts?)

Can our TE’s predominantly pass block and then, when needed, quickly shift to being relied upon for recept’s and yardage?

Can Beck win in both styles?? Play check down and stay ahead of the chains? And then sometimes in some games sling it 40 times in a shootout?

Just thoughts from me…but good thoughts from OP

The reality is that we play to our tendencies and once a good DC (or OC last year) figures it out every other team just copies the blueprint.

As Lance has astutely pointed out .... we need to break tendencies BEFORE someone figures us out.

Have we scored on any offensive possessions when he's been the featured back, besides the drives in the 4th qtr when we were already up by 20+
you mean minus the drives that he has played as the featured back that resulted in TDs?

All good ideas. That said I don’t think our OC has that style in him. He runs the air raid. I’d just be happy to ditch the TEs who cant block and aren’t receiving threats. Do that, go 4 wide or 3 wide with the 2 RBs. I’d also like to see us run out of the pistol more. I’d also like to see some variations off of existing plays. I said yesterday the Toney pass to Beck could have 4-5 variations run off that orbit motion. Whether it’s a run with the RB, a true end around, P/A off it with a shot downfield, or something else. All that said none of it will happen.

If you are speaking of offense, then this year you are correct. The only team last year to stop our offense was GT. And Cal in the first half. So Dawson does have the ability to break tendencies.

Last game was a bit of a mess as far as what we were trying to do. But atleast we broke tendencies and Mario showed he is willing to adapt and change. Whether or not we have success this late in season remains to be seen.

No, have we scored on any drives in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd quarters when Lyle is the featured back or even in part of plays on those drives? I don't think we have. I know we have scored in the 4th qtr multiple times when Lyle is in on the field and we already have a comfortable lead.

Good thoughts (except Lyle, he needs to be on the bench as Rb4, maybe even Rb5). Interesting on the 2 styles. Slowing the game down with "tuff and physical" approach to an ND team (and someone like an Ole Miss in the playoffs) makes sense. But against ACC teams, slowing down games and limiting possessions is just dumb and kills us. Opens up opportunities for upsets with TO's and bad ref calls when offense is off (See UL/SMU ugh.)

Would kill to see an opening scripted drive with Toney in wildcat and Beck moved all around the field (credit to another poster for idea here) but we all know Dawson is no way near creative enough to pull this off the way Brohm would. ugh

Also would love to see a few uptempo west coast offense spread drives sprinkled in. Throw defenses off with something new, play to beck's strengths with short quick throws, mix in a PA deep, and different run variations. But again, dawson...

It was already a given the WR position was going to be young this season. But CJ Daniels and Marion are still two of our best skill players as upperclassmen. And The freshman WRs being so talented shows Mario is recruiting talent that can take someone’s job.. that’s something to praise not criticize.

Think 20/21 will work best with Fletcher & Pringle when Fletcher comes back. Fletcher has had some nasty blocks in 20/21 this year when he's been back their with Brown and we haven't motioned anyone. Could spring an explosive.

Lance nailed it. Digressing, Once again usf exploited us with another blue print to beat us with the simulation of the snap count. That’s more indicating the faults of the best “oline gurus” of cfb in Cristobal and Mirabal not to correct that after it bled into the uf and FSU game.

Brother, this is my mistake. I thought you were speaking of Pringle. I re-followed the thread responses and realized the context was Lyle. It's my bad. I agree with you, Lyle has not been the featured back on TD drives.
