Thomas Brown to join staff

Kirby Smart desperately tried to keep Brown on his staff.

The guy played in the NFL for 3 years and coached Melvin Gordon in 2014.

We had to overpay a bit to get Brown but who cares? In case you haven't figured it out, Miami has the same financial resources as any program in the Country.

Donna simply did not want to spend it.

Julio does.

Jesus Christ kick this moron out of here

Why are you coming down so hard on the guy? It's basically true. It has been reported that Smart wanted to keep him and he accepted but Richt was able to change his mind. More than likely offered more of a role on offense and compensation.

Al Foil: Nothing.

We hire a guy who's played football in the SEC conference, was drafted to the NFL at the same position, have coached that position in the power 5 conference and churned out a couple of "decent" backs, yet some are complaining??! Solid Post Al

Can we please stop referring to the SEC as some higher level of football. It was a conference that had Saban and Meyer at the same time, and now isback to what it was which is no better or worse than any other conference.

And here we go with the revisionist history. Good timing. It's all about the SEC until we hire a coach from the SEC that people don't like. Now the SEC isn't any better than the ACC.

Gotta hand it to you. You have no shame.

Exceptfor me it was never all about the SEC. I never bought in tothis absurd idea that the entire conference was somehow above all others simply bc Alabama won 3 titles. As if USCe and Arky were suddenly powerhouses bc Nick Saban won a billion titles.

Right. SEC = ACC.

Again, Nick Saban being the best coach on earth doesn't make Tennessee better.

Look we know your job is to defend every single thing that happens in the Hecht. But you come across as a pathetic shill pulling for Golden, then Swasey, and now blindly excusing the few deficiencies Richt has.

Just stop with the straw man arguments. Makes you look weak. As soon as someone challenges you, they must be a shill from Hecht. When things get tough, you run into the tunnel like Randal Hill in the Cotton Bowl.

The problem is you do this in every single thread you post in on this board. You don't know if we overpayed for him or what our assistant budget is, heck we don't even know what Brown's title is, yet you come in every thread and act like a faux insider. It's awful and annoying. I don't know what your deal is but you've don't this consistently for a good 3 months.

On top of that, FoillyBoyCane stated that Kirby Dumb tried "desperately" to hold onto Brown. How the fck does he know how hard Dumb tried to keep him? One would imagine that if he offered the same things Richt offered Brown would have stayed at his alma mater.

Word has been that Brown is an up an comer. Really young, but he is supposed to be a real talent. Smart guy.

Big upgrade for him, but I guess Miami had to pay to pull him here. I'm a bit disappointed that a lot of the rumored staff at the start of the process won't be here. Rocker, Sherrer, Lilly, McClendon would have been a nice foundation of a staff. Interested to see where Richt goes with the rest of the staff. Good to see we are spending money though.

Disappointed, sure. It also says something about a coach when other people covet his assistants who he has groomed. I think Richt will find solid replacements.

how will south running back recruits say no to a position coach who is a former nfl running back and a head coach with an amazing track record of sending running backs to the league?

SO we wanted to take all of Richt's staff?i wanted a couple but dam sure didnt want 4 or 5

Assuming worst case scenario of Richt's UGA assistants refusing to follow him to Coral Gables for sake of argument: I don't think
this is necessarily a bad turn of events for Richt/UM.
In fact, it is an opportunity for him to upgrade his cadre of assistants from what he had in Athens.
He did get canned at UGA, so there were things he needed to improve upon anyways.
Here is the window of opportunity.

Now you just being crazy.
1. Tracy Rocker came with Pruitt, so technically he isn't one of "Richt's boys" and they don't have the relationship he has with Lily/BMac/TBrown
2. Rocker is well known as one of the best overall DLine coaches for development + recruiting abilities.

I hate not getting rocker (savage), but the rest, I was kinda, "meh" on anyways. I agree with Medley here. This is best for Richt AND UM. But believe me when I say this. There is a plan in motion. Coach has seen staff turn around before. He knows what he is looking for. Furthermore, it'd be willing to bet that when he offered whatever he offered to Bmac, and the others, he already had in his plans the next guys on speed dial should they say, no.
