Thomas Brown quote today

So essentially "we wont try to convince anyone to come here. I you want to be a hurricane, this is what you get"

Sounds lazy. The clemson's, UGAs, and OSUs of the world still work diligently to get kids on campus and signed. And we are sitting back in the most talent rich area in the country and letting recruits know we dont plan on going the extra mile. This staff is delusional

I know that you have. I just want coaches to get all 100%.

But Here’s what I mean. People are just ****ed at Brown, but what he said is true: if you don’t want to be here go somewhere else. He never said that was a litmus test for recruitment. He never said that they stop recruiting kids once they choose somewhere else. He just made an obvious statement that this board, and others, are blowing out of proportion.
They are blowing it out of proportion and it’s bs, soft shouldered mfs lol. Literally nothing wrong with what he said

Yeah because that’s what he said smh... who raised some of these mfs on this board

Good coach imo, I don’t like when people sugar coat sh*t so I’ll always respect that over people who try to put up false pretenses about situations

he always sugar coats and ignores his lack of coaching skills
always keeps its real by calling out players
if he was really keeping it real he would say players going other places cuz they know they will play in a better offense, ours is garbage
hes full of fake bravado

Yes he is telling it exactly how it is- all the recruits are going somewhere else. This isn't an "us against the world" rah rah statement, it's a desperate excuse to explain why Miami is going to miss out on most of its recruiting targets. If you are an offensive player, what could possibly compel him to play in an offense that struggles to score a 13 points against the likes of UVA?

Sound like a soulless beggars. Pathetic.

It's a shame to see Coach Brown go down with the ship, because I believe Thomas Brown is a good coach!!

I recall seeing clips of Brown teaching guys not to field punts/kickoff's sideways, but rather square to the ball - Yet, Jeff Thomas did exactly the opposite. I have seen Brown stress protecting the ball - Yet, Dallas has gone on a fumbling streak...

He has the right mentality, but like mentioned above, you can't talk tough when you need help and aren't playing well!! Maybe the thought process is to appear to be a principled coach despite the circumstance - which looks excellent for someone looking to make a hire!!

However, while I understand not letting up and demanding excellence no matter what; it's wise to keep the tough talk in-house!! As far as recruiting goes, there's being candid, but then there's the awareness that you can catch more bee's with honey, than you can with brute force of net.

Nevertheless, we'd be fortunate to see Brown and Dugans stick around - because they're good young coaches!

The OC is the problem big time!

That’s exactly what he didn’t say. There’s a lot of things to hammer this staff for without embellishments.
What else did he mean ? It’s his job to convince kids to come here and not just get kids that are layups. Every staff that fails at recruiting uses the “we only want kids that want to be here “ excuse

Brown's title includes OC. If I were him, I'd be embarrassed to have such a token title. If Rick wants to let Brown call plays, so be it. Let him try. It can't possibly be any worse than Rick and maybe Brown is hungry enough to win that he implements a new offensive scheme.

The leadership on this team is still poor overall, who is THAT guy on offense with Richards out? Yes the play calling is sh*tty but we have guys making terrible mistakes with these fumbles, missing blocks. Penalties and dropped passes

If you don't have leaders, that's poor recruiting. Recruiting is also getting a type - winners who are highly competitive - not just acquiring kids who show out against HS kids that will never see a D1 football field.

It shouldn't be that hard to see why we can't get these types. You generally attract what you are.

Having said that, all the mistakes are not just a lack of leaders. Execution is just as much coaching as play calling.

Edit: he didn’t say this pertaining to recruiting but just in general when responding to adversity

Don’t care what anyone say, Brown ain’t going to sugar coat sh*t, and will tell it like it is.

this is what all the bad recruiters say

Coaching.

Always hated that point of view. It's their job to close. You can't put all that time, effort and money into kids and then just say we only want the ones that want to be here when you miss.

This culture is terrible and it starts in the pop warner and high school level. You have people talking about transferring because they didn't start/play as a freshman.
The new culture of the So. FL. Kids. The days of the dogs are over.

Ya'll ready to fire everyone and everything. That, my friends, will not cure the real issues. It will only make you feel temporarily hopeful about a "potential" that is not guaranteed with another coach. College football is top heavy. There are a few really good coaches out there. This season is total ****, but not indicative of how far we've come. I don't think we really understood how bad things got in Coral Gables. We where spoiled, and rightfully so, for a very long time. The landscape has changed and we are playing catch up. We are still being led by Golden's recruits. Just ride out the season. It'll get..... better I promise you.

Can Brown be more thick headed? Seriously, he needs to shut up. No kid with a brain wants to play in this O.

he meant the obvious: you CAN ONLY GET KIDS WHO WANT TO BE AT YOUR UNIVERSITY. And until nation signing day has a legally binding component where coaches hold a gun to the head of a recruit they captured the night before … it will always be that way. Plus, he’s always said that. He said it last year and he said it in the spring.
Good recruiters CONVINCE PLAYERS TO COMMITT....bad recruiters fail and use the “we only what players that want to be here” excuse...it will always be that way
