This season reminds me of 2002 Ohio St. team

2014 fsu.

This is exactly what I was gonna say. Every week they would come out, Jamie’s couldn’t hit the broadside of the barn, Jimbos playcalling sucked, and the defense would give up a couple of big plays and they would go in at half in a tight game against a team they should blowout. Then the second half would come around, the defense would tighten up and Winston and the offense would catch fire. Half way through the season, I stopped getting excited when I’d see they were losing or in a tight game at half. Because they never failed to get it together enough in the second half to put games away.

I don’t know if this Miami team can keep it up, but it just a feels like no matter what happens, this team has a chance to win. We’re gonna find out in the next 2 weeks how good this team is, and whether or not they can continue to get it done. Pretty exciting if you ask me.

That is a fair comparison.....but also has a lot of similarities to the 2013 team that started 7-0 and got to #7 .

- Early season signature victory of in-state rival that turned out to be not very good that year.
- Needed a last minute score to beat a 1 win UNC team at Chapel Hill despite being a heavy favorite in late October
- Close games with lesser competition like Wake Forest.
- Back to back huge games at @FSU then VT ruined the season in weeks 8,9

VT is a defining game for us this weekend.

2013 's coaching staff and talent and leadership pale in comparison to this squad.
The mentality and the culture at the present time can't really be compared to anything we have seen in years.

But Ohio State wasn't dominant during that 2002 season. How do I know? Well if you add 19 points to each of their opponents final score tally, they would have had 9 losses!

I remember being at the Purdue - Ohio St. game that year when the Buckeyes scored on a fourth down Hail Mary Play with less than 2:00 to go in the game to barely win.

That year they squeaked out a bunch of wins but somehow got to the championship game and we all know what happened there.

Every close win builds confidence. Let's start by beating Vtech and see where this goes...

Texas Tech* W 45–21
Kent State* W 51–17
Washington State* W 25–7
at Cincinnati* W 23–19
Indiana W 45–17
at Northwestern W 27–16
San Jose State* W 50–7
at Wisconsin W 19–14
Penn State W 13–7
Minnesota W 34–3
at Purdue W 10–6
at Illinois W 23–16 OT
Michigan W 14–9
Miami (FL)* W 31–24 2OT

I've said this before but it's different in the sense that they had a Heisman caliber RB and actually blew out some teams.

Ask me again in a few months. Way too much football to be played to start comparing this team NC winning teams. Even if it is a stolen championship.

Keep this in mind: before the season we all expected to have Mark Walton carry the load and Rosier to just not lose games with the handful of passes he'd have to make. The offense is 180 degrees from what we expected. Rosier is passing 30-40 times per game to set up the run, because we have a very inexperienced backfield and the blocking isn't there. This Canes team is just willing itself to wins. Just need to do it one more time and the ACC Coastal is ours.

been thinking the same thing for most of the year. we tend to play to our competition and, when needed, seem to step it up. we could still win or lose every game left on our schedule I think.

go CANES!!

Might be a stretch but I think this is true for every game every year.......but hey what do I know

2002 Ohio State in 2017 would have had to play a Big10 Title Game against an 11-1 Iowa, then gone into the playoff and had to play probably an 11-1 Georgia in the playoff before even getting to Miami.

Crazy how Miami dropped to #2 in 2002 for a week despite being on a 30 game win streak.

This team will write their own story. It's all laid out perfectly with home games against the toughest teams on the schedule.

I think an apt comparison might be Howard’s 1983 team. They didn’t have an NC to fall back on, but after the fiasco in Gainesville, they never looked back.

....Am I the only one that doesn't want the Miami Hurricanes to be compared to ANY part of Ohio State?

Especially the '02 team?
