This is what has been missing at Miami for a very long time.

If I was in his spot, I'd do the same thing," he said. "You've got to be able to get a spark. When your quarterback's not playing good, then you've got to be able to make a change like that. For me, stats aren't everything. My No. 1 stat is to get the W. Our ultimate goal is to win the National Championship.”

For those who don’t know, these were the words of starting QB DJ Uiagalelei, of Clemson, after being benched for true freshman Cade Klubnik midway through the game this past Saturday. By all accounts DJ has/had been playing extremely well this year but Dabo felt the team needed a spark and it worked brilliantly. For far too long we’ve had a team full of “me, me, me” guys and nobody cares about their brother out there beside them. There’s no concern about winning, competing, letting your teammates down. I’ve been reading and hearing from a bunch of people who say that when this team loses there’s no look of concern, frustration, anger, or ANYTHING from our team. I used to put most of the blame on coaches when teams play this poorly, but where is the pride or sense of competing coming from this team? Nowhere. The old Miami teams didn’t need a coach to tell them to tackle hard, get fired up for a game, not commit 18 penalties, not turn the ball over 8 times in a game. I just thought it was interesting that while I was reading that response from DJ I was left thinking...where are those type of dudes on our squad? Nowhere to be found, and that’s a major issue.
Great effing post.

I was negative on Gattis initially predominantly based upon

1. Feedback from my Mich buddy
2. His very limited resume of calling plays
3. Poor track record of developing QBs and WRs

I still put the bulk of blame on him

You combine the rash of injuries to key offensive starters and here we are.

I’ll go to my grave with the belief that great coaches can elevate their players in spite of talent, and can scheme around deficiencies.

Gattis is doing the opposite, scheming as if this teams’ weaknesses were a strength
I’m with you…. Nothing more pathetic than TVD himself needing to sit down with the OC and staff and explain to them what he feels comfortable running from last years film tape

Like the coaching staff didn’t look at last years tape and say okay this kid was a rock star potential 1st rounder let’s meld these plays into this years book and let’s roll

No he literally brought his own hand written spiral notebook and said to **** and high water were running this ****

Yet look at this thread and people are still crying about Gattis and missing the point that it's on the culture of players within the program—the losers needed to be flushed out and replaced by kids who buy in.

Dabo's full first year in Clemson was 2009, after taking over for Tommy Bowden during 2008 season.

9-5, 6-7, 10-4 (but WVU put up 70 in OB) before getting Venables and going 11-2, 11-2, 10-3 and then 14-1, losing the national title followed by 14-1 and winning it all in year eight.

Fans talking about Clemson's culture in Swinney's 14th full season—while not letting Cristobal get through half of year one, or crediting the culture he built in four years at Oregon.

Classic Canes....

Bro, I’m not talking about other teams as an example and certainly not talking about culture because it’s such an intangible thing and gets thrown around too easily.

But try and tell me Gattis’ trash playcalling isn’t a detractor to the players. We saw the same thing with Dorito even though we had multiple guys go to the NFL from those couple years

It really doesn’t surprise me that this offense isn’t pumped up or inspired to play for Gattis with how poorly and idioticly he calls a game, especially in the redzone. The stupid bunches and WR motions into the box

If you played football before, you know what I’m talking about

My thing is... why didn't the staff do this when it was intact?
Was this a HC thing or an OC thing?

Those players would have likely also regressed, and then you’d be calling them jags or selfish losers, too.

Mario is who he is. He needs someone that cares about him and the program to have an intervention and lock his *** up in a room until he accepts that his model will not work here.

Great coaches are known for being flexible. He is anything but that. He needs to get rid of his plodding offense that moves at a snail’s pace, and release the hounds with up tempo RPO spread.

Our team finished on a 6-1 roll last season, and fought in every one of those games, meaning that it’s more than just the players being lazy or not having a winning attitude. It all starts at the top.
Love how you’re saying this 6 games into the season when he hasn’t even had a chance to atone for his mistakes and hire new coordinators.

Real smart board we have here, let’s fire the CEO before he gets a chance to make changes. Ever thought our players fought because they knew Manny was a dead man walking and they were playing for the new staff?

Season is lost, ok: Let’s see what he’s really made of as a recruiter, + the changes he makes to the staff. Then I’ll judge.

Also one more time: roster is *** cheeks. Coaching staff is a D, roster is a C-

Great question

With all of the auxiliary staffers in place, including Ed Reed and JT, I’m surprised how poorly we self scout

Mario isn’t dumb

The trends of Gattis’ offense
And Def weaknesses at LB and CB shoukd have been accounted for

There it is.
Now what is it, did Mario give Gattis full autonomy thinking he knew what he was doing, thinking at the same time his (and Mirabal's) run/pass blocking schemes would mesh well with what he (Gattis) had in mind and just received lip svc and now he feels like Manny did with Enos (got sold a penguin, DM me for the penguin joke), or did Mario know and signed off on it?

Unfortunately, whether its Mario being stubborn or Gattis being stubborn it’s hurting the offense

I tend to think it’s Gattis though, because my two best friends are Huge michigan fans and they’ve been my de facto second team for 20yr. Gattis being dumb in the redzone is not a new thing

Sorry Addison isn't regressing here even with Mario.
He might have not regressed, but his numbers and impact would be pedestrian compared to playing in a Lincoln Riley offense.

You cannot possibly imagine that Mario and Gattis are anywhere close to Riley when it comes to offensive scheming and play calling.

I’m not stating anything earth shattering, but from what I’ve heard this week, it’s highly highly likely that Gattis will not be our OC in 2023…. How exactly it happens is irrelevant

a quarterback who cant throw consistently? no we've had plenty of that.

You can’t really be arguing this.

Mario has never employed an OC that ran a wide open offensive scheme. Please do some research. Mario hired Gattis because that’s the style that he prefers.

If he wanted to run a cutting edge, up tempo spread/RPO, he would have hired Brady, Briles, or any one of the other guys that were rumored to be potential hires. Instead, he hired the guy that he envisioned running his offense the way that he prefers it.

It’s alarming that that it took him the amount of time that it did micro-managing this hire, to wind up with possibly the worst OC we’ve ever had.

The defensive hiring wasn’t anything to write home about either. But I bet you’re one of those dudes that only blames the players. I’m not one to say they’re free of blame, but it’s hard to get motivated to play in a scheme that makes most players overthink and worse, not better.

…and what exactly have you heard, Mr. Insider?

I just love how the fans on here are quick to blame players instead of starting at the top where accountability belongs. For Randy it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Coker Players, until folks realized Shannon wasn't good.
For Golden it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Shannon players, until people realize Golden wasn't good.
For Richt, it was blame the selfish lazy, entitled Golden players (except for that one season) until it became apparent Richt's offense was outdated, he was past his prime and dealing with health issues (he is the only one who gets a pass).
For Diaz, it was blame the selfish, lazy, entitled Richt players, until folks realized Diaz sucked.
For Mario it's well you get the idea.

Aren't you all tired of sounding like a broken record? Place the blame where it needs to be, starting right at the top. Lincoln Riley turned USC around from 4-8 before he got there to 6-1, Sonny Dykes turned TCU from 4-8 the year before he got there to 7-0 and a top 10 ranking. **** even Mike Elko turned Duke from 3-9 before he got there to what 4-3 this year (a team that recruits way below Miami standards). **** Josh Heupel turn UTenn's offense from ranked in the 100s before he got there to like top 15 his first year. Stop making excuses for ****** coaching. It's clear the players currently dont trust Mario or the staff. It's past the midway point and the team seems to be regressing as the season is going along. But yeah sure blame players posting on social media (as if players from other schools don't). I don't know how Mario's tenure here at Miami will be, but so far the entire program looks like **** from top to bottom (including the players).
Gsu......here is a news flash........all Mario can and will do is Coach..
He can't go on the field and execute plays for these players. He already did that and won Championships.
They have to have the desire to play hard, produce, and fight......that is reality, and stop blaming Coaches for Country Club players. It's all on them to show out.

Also, way to deflect and not give a rebuttal when it comes to Lincoln Riley’s offensive scheme compared to Mario and Gattis’ system.

I have to give you credit on that one. You would have been pretty dumb to try to argue that point. Coaching and schemes matter more than ever in today’s CFB.

Yeah I don’t, but it seems like you’re the kind of dude to only blame coaches.

Fact of the matter is Miami is different than Oregon. Scratch everything that happened there - completely new scenario. He is **** well aware now he doesn’t have the players to operate that system. Recruits don’t like it either, and the honeymoon is over with fans - so now we see if he is truly stubborn trying to jam a square peg in a round hole, or he adapts and you eat crow.

We’ll see - I hope it’s the latter. Can’t say the same for some on this board that are openly rooting for failure - and in essence, rooting against Miami’s success.

My thing is... why didn't the staff do this when it was intact?
Was this a HC thing or an OC thing?
I’m under the impression he gave both Gattis and Steele power to run whatever they wanted with the belief they would be successful….

Really think against what most people think of what Mario wants to run that when it was obvious it wasn’t working he bridged the gap between TVD and Gattis and told them to figure it out because there is no way we should be THAT BAD on offense
