I didn't hear him take any personal responsibility.
It's sort of like when you apologize to someone that you crashed into with your car, and you say "Sorry our cars are wrecked."
You don't say "I'm sorry"
You don't say "I was texting while driving, I'm so sorry are you ok?"
You just give some half-apology that shows zero accountability for your actual fault in the matter.
Mario gave half-admissions of wrongdoing with zero accountability for his own individual screwup in the situation.
He shouldn't even be dancing around it! It should be clear as day and obvious to everyone, he should be saying yes, this loss is on me, I own it. I wasted the effort of these young men and I let them down. I'm going to study this film, we are going to incorporate some systems to ensure that this never happens again and if anybody wants to point fingers after this loss, point them at me, don't point them at our players because they won the game and I lost it for them.
Mario I'm giving you multiple different ways of handling this, basically any way of handling it is better than this sheepish avoidance of owning it. If I was on that team and I heard his comments, I would respect him absolutely ZERO right now. If I was a recruit and he owned it, I'd say heck yes I'm in this guy is building something. If I was a recruit and heard this crap he's mumbling, I'd start fielding other phone calls.
He has a golden opportunity here - like I said - a make or break moment.
COME ON MARIO.
